My first thought was, we got a child actor that is actually pretty good. In fact, this episode was kidtastic, wasn't it?
I found it slightly odd that Dai Shi would want to get himself a new master, since he's been the head honcho so far. Maybe Carnisoar will eventually try to take too much power, and Dai Shi will have a problem?... I'm kind of hoping that will happen, now that I thought of it.
Nice little action moment when Dai Shi throws his most powerful attack at Carnisoar and explosions fill the screen, only for the dust to clear and reveal that Dai Shi hasn't harmed him at all. Just great.
I love the dual storylines in this episode. Especially seeing as how both of them have essentially the same theme. Doing what's right versus what we know isn't. Both stories involving kids. And I think it's actually very effective.
Casey managed to be the main Ranger of the episode without feeling like it was another "Red Ranger in your face" episode, with his personal back-and-forth with Josh, which the others don't have anything to do with.
I don't think I'd mind seeing Josh again, especially after his little "I love the Power Rangers" moment. A scene where he witnesses Casey in action would be kinda cool.
I LOVED the flashback scenes with Dai Shi visiting Jarrod's memories, only for Carnisoar to screw up the few goods things in his past, to force the good out of him. I think the sequences were all really nicely shot, and creatively put together. I felt like they really put some heart and artistry into it. For PR, when Jarrod's family friends turned to dust, it was chilling. And Jarrod's fight with the school bullies was just a surprise all the way around.
The monster was crazy, but at least we had our heroes commenting on it in funny ways. And it lent itself to some interesting kung fu-esque stuff with the red cloth. (I couldn't help but think of Kite from Wild Force, since he was a kid, and his name was actually Kite. Except Josh's actor can carry a scene...)
This, "Way of the Master," and "Pizza Slice of Life" are probably the three episodes that most come close to what I saw the show as possibly being before it started, so I was pretty pleased with this. Good continuity, character development, a strong theme, and nice action. I really liked this one.
"Good Karma, Bad Karma" gets a strong A from me. Watch out, Camille!
