When I read the thread title, I thought Scat Sex had something to do with it. Since it seems it's pretty popular over there.

When researcher Mitsuyuki Ikeda was approached by Tokyo Sewage about "SEWAGE MUD" and implored him to explore the possibilites, Ikeda found that the "MUD" contained a vast amount of protein due to all the bacteria

So he and his fellow researchers extracted the protein and created an artificial steak (with a little bit of Soy protein for flavor).

Thankfully due to cost of all the research involved, we won't be seeing this on the store shelves anytime soon

Why not? If they can turn all the cow **** into food at cheap, then just send it to the third world. It all goes down either way and it solves the food shortage of meat. Hopefully they will decontaminsate it first...

Chances are, if we ate it , we wouldn't know unless we were told or if it looked weird. I'd rather have the real thing .

It's not really that revolting if you think about it from the perspective of science and chemistry. All physical matter is compiled of little constituent elements of which there are a limited number, so if you deconstruct something and reconfigure the elements then it actually becomes something else. In this case they've managed to reproduce the exact combination of whatever components are necessary to create something akin to animal meat, so in reality the finished product is not that different. Really, the thing I found most unappetizing about that article was the fact that they included soy in the converted meat.

That being said, I probably still wouldn't eat it.
