Is the Toku industry in the Philippines getting weak?

Yeah the tagalized dubbed version of AD was freaking funny(they even add some Pinoy jokes in some dialogues used in earlier episodes...)...

I remember when the tagalized dubbed Shaider became popular,there are other cartoons were dubbed also in tagalog(remember Inhumanoids and Visionaries?) on ABS-CBN 2,there are some Taiwanese dramas dubbed in tagalog on IBC 13 in the 80's.....I think most TV stations here are just going to the flow or they're just following the trend...

You mean, Ghost Fighter/ YU YU HAKUSHO, Flame of Recca and also with Slayers? Man! Never forget the original Tagalog dub of Voltes Five, Daimos and Combatler V. They all ROCK! I might hate Tag dub, but for those classics which were dubbed PURELY IN Philippine Language were a masterpiece. Hand it over, they all were better than what this modern dubs are doing. These new gen dubs (Tokusatsu) are all freaking me out by fake accents and made me laugh with their selection of words and (hopefully Warchie-sama is not one of those guys who wrote the scripts) characters. GSD *Gundam Seed Destiny* was horrible.

If only TV 5 would air english subbed animes and tokus(Media Prima's channels in Malaysia are airing animes in Jap audio butin Malay subs)...But then again that's totally impossible..

that's the same school of thought my friend has and i agree that it should be done. rather than tailor-fit your product to what the market wants, you force the market to adapt to your product. does that make sense? :laugh:

take the japanese... they could reach an even bigger market instantly if they make their shows english from the beginning. but they dont do that. if you want to enjoy and understand their shows, you have to either learn their language or have it translated. they dont adjust their product to suit YOU.

same with their videos. they could produce more copies of their DVDS and include english subs and it would sell so much more internationally. but they dont do that. they keep their product for themselves and you'll have to find your own way to get them.

but this is such a big stretch. we're talking about something so simple and possible... leave the english shows as is.

good thing ABS-CBN hasn't aired any Disney Channel live action shows, because if they do it'll turn out horrible (the tagalized dialog won't fit with the lip movements), but save for HSM 1 and 2, (which aired last year on ABS' Sunday's best) they were left undubbed, thank goodness.

we can always pray that the original production company that owns the english show requres that it isnt dubbd. i remember when GMA first aired pokemon, the japanese owner forbade them to tagalize it. i dont know what happened and it was finally allowed years later.

this is also a sign of how producers took things and made them worse... 8 years ago, GMA tagalized escaflowne but realized it was going to ruin the story so they aired the english dub by ocean instead... years later they tagalized it anyway. my point is, even some anime dont sound well even when tagalized well. in my opinion, very deep shows with highly technical dialog like the gundam series and initial d shouldnt be tagalized. they used to believe this. but now, everything is fair game.

what i would wish for is a locally made animation channel like hero... BUT the shows in it are all english. what would make this different from nick, CN and disney is that the toku is in english [sentai, KR and ultra series included], and no cartoons... anime would be shown dubbed in english by american companies. i mean why insist on locally dubbed, whether english or filipino, the budget and translation would always fall short compared to the us dubs. i'd rather watch megaman NT warrior than tagalized rockman.exe anyday.

i was about to say that but i was waiting for someone else to point it out first... do you realize what it would be like if tagalized anime didnt boom? we'd be stuck with so many dubs like digimon. dont think that they'd all be dubbed like the english ones at TSP... the other studios would jump on the english dubbing bandwagon and dubs like digimon would be all that you would get. most of the filipino VA's suck at english dubbing. we have quite a few gems in the industry but that's it.

i mean this is why the term "call center dubbing" was coined. because these noobs were allowed into this unregulated industry...

And I had to agree with you sir. An ALL ENGLISH TOKUSANIME CHANNEL that fits all audiences.

actually my proposal is different. the anime would be english dubbed but by american companies or whatever company that does the licensed us dvd releases or at least the ones shown on american TV [like the first english escaflowne shown on GMA is the one dubbed by OCEAN in canada, same one in the licensed US DVD], and the toku would be dubbed in english by filipinos. it would be the local VA's slice in that pie.

toku doesnt have that many characters in it, so one show dubbed by 7-8 VA's isnt that bad sounding. think of bioman. but when you have anime that have nearly hundreds or at least 50-80 characters and you have 7-8 VA's trying to dub all of them [even if they can't], that's plain ridiculous.

i'd like to believe that if the masses could be "forcefed" english shows then they will eventually like it again and it would create a new market once more.

think of it as a channel that has nothing but japanese youth oriented shows but completely in english language for an american market.

compared to anime, it would be much easier to market, anyway. tignan nyo na lang ang PR. think about it. if you like an anime on animax or hero, where would you go to buy toys/merchandise of that show? you'd have to hunt them down in obscure little hobby shops because there are no big anime merchandise distributors here. but if it's an anime with american backing and merchandising, it's almost always in the big toy store chains. once an anime is big in the us market, it's always available in mainstream merchandising.

i would love to see the local market get into yuyu hakusho's us version, as well as hajime no ippo's us version [fighting spirit]. pero syempre, if we could avoid bringing back the really old gastado titles, then the better.

i know it sounds like i'm favoring US dubs too much. but i am willing to bet that their translations are more accurate and there are more VA's used per show than the tagalized ones. i mean okay, sometimes they do change the names and such, but like i said, the channel i'm proposing is for the american market.

Well my Sempai, I agree with that, things are too local these days, I mean, it is possible to have it only when all are going to work out. I found that only Samurai X is in English (Studio 23) and Bakugan of Cartoon Network are in English. Please increase the ENGLISH DUBBED for that is more accurate than what happens now. I prefer the retro/old times TAGALOG DUB than the modern TAGDUBs, I mean, hear and you will be disgusted by the modern dubbers.

Say for example. YUYU HAKUSHO, that was well TAG dubbed than todays very animes ZOIDS/ GUNDAM SEED or SEED DESTINY/ ROCKMAN EXE./ etc.
As of these horrible scenarios I DEMAND THE ENGLISH DUBBED VERSION TO BE OUT ON ALL TV STATIONS THAT AIRS ANIME.

We have heard about ANIMAX but their English dubbing is horrible, I mean I call for all their animes to be aired with American Voice Actors and not by HONG KONG/ SINGAPOREAN DUBBERS who did the dub of many Chinese Martial Arts shows like The Once Upon a Time in China series. And please may they consider that ED versions are now being despised by many anime fans for reasons:

-DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO ELABORATE EXPRESSIONS
-THE VOICES ARE NOT FIT
-THEY ARE OUT OF THE TONE
-BAD CHOICE
-etc.

whatever these are, sure does not look good. I mean, shame on them for they are blinded by their egos of such shallow reasons.
