Is Kyoryuger really such more light hearted than Go-Busters?

This is why Batman is the least popular super hero in the world. He never has any fun and all he cares about is crime fighting. And for what? His dead parents? Crybaby.

Ok lets put this into perspective. Go-Busters is not dark, edgy or grimy. Just because the main rangers' parents died on Christmas and Beat Buster doesn't mean it's dark. Hell they all more or less "disappeared" into hyperspace like thin air. It wasn't graphic in any way. Same for Kyoryuger. Torin just turned into stone. No blood shed or pain like in the older sentai series. So really neither series is even dark by Super Sentai standards made by past series.

"Daigo/King is a more classical Red, hot blooded, very enthusiastic and always wanting to have fun with his teammates." LOL have you seen Sun Vulcan or Jetman?? When on Earth did you started watching sentai? Gokaiger?

While I agree that Go-Busters is neither dark nor edgy, I don't think you can measure the darkness of a piece of media by whether it has blood shed or graphic violence. Majora's Mask is incredibly dark, I'd say, but it's also completely bloodless and not graphic at all.

"As a result, while the heroes of Go-Busters have trouble having fun, because of how they're focused on their mission," And what's wrong with being focused on their missions?? I thought that was whole reason Super Sentai existed. To focus and stop the bad guys from taking/destroying Earth. Did the Gorangers have fun with each other?? NO this is supposed to be serious. The fate of the Earth is on the line here!

I've answered your question in the post just before yours; and for your information, I've seen every sentai series, and except Goranger, all completely. And Sentai shows is more often than not the balance between serious stuff and more light hearted stuff : you're talking about Jetman and Sun Vulcan: Sun Vulcan was a light hearted show, and while the team was serious, they knew how to have fun, and Vul Panther had a very important role as comic relief, and is arguably the most memorable of the three rangers.
Go-Busters also tried to make comedy, notably with the Buddyroids, but the comedy didn't work, notably because Kobayashi isn't very skilled in writing comedy. In fact, one could compare the Go-Busters team to the JAKQ team which was as much grim, not being able to show any fun side; is it a wonder they had to bring Hiroshi Miyauchi back to bring some fun with Big One?
And yeah, Daigo is a classical red is you check the sentai series from the last ten years.

One of the reasons why Kyoryugers was light was that the Rangers themselves didn't had a huge weight on them, unlike Go-Busters. Since they still had normal lives, besides fighting Deboss.

Er ... in what way was Marvelous like Daigo other than that they are both reckless (which is pretty much a guaranteed trait for the hero of any show aimed at young Japanese boys?) Loud, hyper Reds have been common in Sentai for the last ten years or so

I think Kyoryuger, like almost every Sentai, was serious when it needed to be, light when it wanted to be, nothing out or the ordinary. And it worked fine, not going overboard like say, Go-onger, as some people feared. It knew when to stop.

It's even clearer now that the "dark" statement was just a higher-up trying to use polite words to criticize a product on which he shared fault for the results.

I don't think Go-Busters is dark, edgy, grim, whathaveyou. I don't even think it was subdued (oh, the unending chicken joke, oh god stop, oh god).

I think it was just so deeply, painfully dull you could use it as a treatment for people with chronic insomnia.

Pretty much this. The Sentai with the unbearable chicken joke, one of the most cartoonish things i ever seen in Sentai, has "subtle" comedy. Yeah right, heh.

Go-Busters also tried to make comedy, notably with the Buddyroids, but the comedy didn't work, notably because Kobayashi isn't very skilled in writing comedy.

Couldn't agree anymore. I like Kobayashi and all, but her attempts of humor are almost physically painful. It was already bad with the Imagin's "gimmicks", but the Buddyroids took it to another level of unfunnyness.

Even in her better shows, like Timeranger or Shinkenger, the comedy felt really out of place, most of the time. And despite of Den-o, i always had the feeling she doesn't feel comfortable writing comedy for some reason.

Funny thing is, the Imajin weren't that bad in the early episodes; it was only later that the show and movies started being all about them and their one-trick pony acts.

I don't get what's so bad about the Buddyroids though. They're not especially "funny", but I never saw them as "funny" characters, just robot helpers a la every other past robot helper. (Even though they probably were indeed an attempt to replicate the Imajins.)

Well, for one, Kyoryuger was OVER THE TOP and super wacky, while Go-Busters was not. It took itself more seriously, which doesn't make it superior by the way.

But when we use the terms dark - I do firmly believe Go-Busters was not necessarily darker, but way more serious. For example, Ian losing Shiro was a plot point that gave him drive and was only mentioned every now and then. In Go-Busters, the whole plot of them trying to find their families was a major driving force behind the first half of the show. And in the end they had to sacrifice them - compare the scene where Ian is depressed over his friends death to the scene in Go-Busters where they are driving away from hyperspace. There is a world of difference here, but it's all in how the respective series chooses to tell their stories judging by overall mood and tone.

It's the same thing with the Jin and Torin comparison you made - Torin's death wasn't made out as big as Jin's. Again, content-wise it sounds similar but they way they are shot and written reflect each of the shows overall tones.

So no, Kyoryuger isn't as dark as Go-Busters because it's not trying to be dark. Yes, it has serious moments, but it is meant to be fun, whereas Go-Busters may have tried too hard to be serious.
