Is Goseiger's really that bad?

Hey, you know what you could watch instead to get a sixth ranger kicking the asses of the main five? ZyuRanger, Gingaman, TimeRanger, and AbaRanger. All vastly superior series to Gosei.

Watched the first couple episodes and I kinda liked it. I'll just give a short list of what I liked and didn't like.

Likes:

The theme: Angels are a great concept for any heroic show, since angels are some of most heroic creatures in fantasy, although not always.

The suits: Yeah there's a lot of white but it goes with the theme nicely as they look very heroic. It's also nice to see the silver mouth pieces in detail again since I think Tine Ranger, and it kinda reminds me a little bit of Zyuranger.

The characters: The Main 5 all look adorable, especially Alta and Agri . Why is he hated so much in the Sentai Fandom? And the Villains actually look fairly threatening.

Dislikes:

The Henshin Device: I know this was suppose to be for an Arcade Game that Toei was promoting, but this is just lamer then the cell phone devices. It just doesn't fit with the overall theme of the show, although I don't mind it as much when it's used for their weapons and mech.

Btw, how did this show fair in Japan? Did the fans there like it, or hate it?

Good to see you're enjoying the show.

Goseiger's suits has a militaristic feel to them. They look like they're wearing military officer uniforms, and it looks really sharp. Personally my favorite part of the suits are the gold collars and cuffs.

One of the main problems with Alata, is that he looks way too feminized. That, and combined with his small stature, and his overly-kind and tolerant attitude outside of battle had people labeling him a "weenie". I like Alata, but I myself had a hard time reconciling myself with his looks, and his little wing earrings. They shouldn't have made him wear that.

The other is, I guess, him being a "weenie". You'll see a lot in the show where the other members push Alata around, and made him do extra chores and errands (Eri especially puts him through a lot) and he never really complains. But I myself never had a problem with it. I just see this as Alata being that nice of a guy whose very tolerant and indulging of others.

Another things is his optimistic attitude. You'll be hearing "as long we don't give up, it'll work out somehow" a lot as the show went on. Now, I just see this as the show dispensing moral values and encouraging the kids to "never give up and always try their best". And honestly, you'd be surprised by how much people can achieve in life if they just, don't, give up. But I guess some people just take offense to Alata's "overbearing" optimism and altruism, instead of being a "more realistic, relatable character". I myself disagree with this, again. I like my heroes being heroes because they can do what I can't.

Super Goseiger is one of my favorite team power ups. It just looks awesome. Others including Legend in Magiranger and Super Gekirangers.
Oh, and I also like Go-busters personalized ones.

It wasn't a hit like Shinkenger, but its sales were decent and its ratings were 5.4%, only half a percentage point lower than Shinkenger's and actually the second-highest rated Sentai since Gekiranger (which is where ratings first started to take a major nosedive.)

Captain Marvelous wore an earring and I don't recall anyone calling out on that. In what way does Alata look "feminized?" He looked young for his age, but he looked like a young boy, not a girl. It's quite common for male idols in Japan to wear jewellery, and other Sentai/Rider heroes do it. Is it because we're used to seeing Toei cast very young teenage girls next to 20-something guys, so when they cast a young-looking dude people's response is "girly"?

Yeah, I think this is a big reason why the show isn't well liked by English-speaking fans. People complained of its messages being "unrealistic" and "fake."

Just to remind myself how banal and dire the middle arc is, I recall an episode where Eri (GoseiPink) gets into a flap because some poor baker is mildly hurt during a monster attack...so logically, she decides to just do cake duty for him despite having no bakery experience...and neglecting her more pressing duty of, oh I dunno, fighting the Yuuma beast with her teammates. In fact, GoseiKnight speaks for the viewers when he looks at Eri and asks what the hell is wrong with her.

It's because the baker had been hired to make a cake for a child's birthday (and a good Sentai hero never lets a child down.) GoseiKnight's response is there to make him later question his attitude - when Hyde defends Eri's actions, and then when everyone sees how happy the child was that his birthday has been saved, GoseiKnight reflects on whether the Goseigers are really so wrong to try to protect humans' happiness.

Thank you :D. Just finished episode 3. Agri is cute and probably my second favorite ranger so far, next to Alta.

I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a girl, but I have no problem with how Alata looks or acts. I actually like the fact that they made him more..."Feminine" if you want to use that word. It shows that just because a leader, red ranger or anyone isn't macho doesn't mean they can't be kick ass! I honestly hate that part of the fandom that says "Red's have to be macho and our ideal of manly!" They don't say it like that, obviously, but I really hate how some sentai fans say with, Right for example how he's "unmanly" and a "pansy" or call him homophobic slurs. Just because a red doesn't met your standard of "tough or macho looking" enough doesn't mean they aren't badasses.

...Seriously? Some fans hate the "Never give up?" theme on a CHILDREN'S SHOW?! Good lord. I mean if it's a ham fisted in your face consistently that's one thing but to out right hate the concept? That makes no sense to me. And while I love "Realistic" characters, not everything have dark and gritty. Just because something is like that doesn't make it good ( looks towards Go-buster's)

Sorry for ranting but something about that topic get's to me.

I really, really love that quote. even until today. I was still fighting with myself over whether I should go ahead with furthering my language studies in Japan since end of 2009. when the first episode of Goseiger aired and Arata told Nozomu "If you don't try, you'll never know and you won't start anywhere." that phrase really hit me hard because it felt as if he was talking to ME instead. those "It'll work out somehow!" and "Let's just try it out for now!" quotes stuck with me during my time in Tokyo. if it weren't for it, I would've rage quit too early.

He's basically the most girly-looking Red. Short stature, small shoulders and really red lips. I don't recall Marvelous ever wearing earrings, but if he does it's not cutesy little wings. It didn't help that the previous year we had a serious authoritative figure Red in Takeru AND the next year we got the dashing bombastic Red in Marvelous, most complaints basically come from comparing them.

Now, I myself don't share this complaint. I think it's the point of Alata in that the Red doesn't have to be authoritative or manly. A badass doesn't need to be an uber alpha jerk, and it's perfectly okay for guys to be nice, for the sake of being nice.

To be honest, this is one of the real issues i have with the show.

Now, don´t be take me wrong, never giving up is a great message for a show to impart, but the way the show handled it sometimes was terrible.

The best example is the finale: the goseiger are completely against the wall while fighting burejira who at this point has pretty much won, but then Alata gives pep up speech and suddenly the tower of heaven is restored and the world is saved from certain annihilation.

Again, there is nothing wrong with a positive message like never give up, and i know that miracles are actually part of the show, but in the end i prefer the idea that if you don´t give up you can find a way to move forward instead of the idea that if you don´t give up a miracle will happen.

So yeah, it is a good message for children, but it could have been handled a lot better, at the end they pretty much resort to using a deus ex machina, and not in a good way like Go-Onger did.
