I don't think it matters either way. The original doesn't matter at all when it comes to adapting. They turned Go-onger into RPM. That is all I need to say

If it was advertised well enough, and the characters remained essentially the same when transitioned to the states. The story doesn't even have to be the same, hell they don't even need to travel through time, all that has to be the same is Momotaros-tachi.

The best adaptation would be Kiva, because for some stupid reason, vampires are the hottest thing right now

If a network took serious time to promote it, the story of Den-O would work great in the US. It would be hilarious, too, to see all the fans screaming about how it wasn't dark enough and there wasn't enough blood.
