I think that was part of the problem. Maybe they were so used to telling stories in a 50-something episode format that they ran out of time near the end. But then they had two movies to try and fix this so...IDK. Someone else said there was communication problems between writers, I imagine that had a lot to do with it too.

For me Decade is one of my favorites because of the cast, not so much the story. The Tsukasa-Yuusuke-Natsumi trio was probably my favorite thing about the series. Yes, I do agree the story often left something to be desired. But it did have it's moments.

I think I'm the only one who didn't think DCD was as bad as people say. Sure it had some faults, but so does every tokusatsu. And the big problems people have with DCD don't really bother me as much.

I feel the same way. However, it didn't turned out the way some people expected. But for me, I liked that it was unpredictable.

That's basically my only gripe with Decade (besides making Kiva World look like ****), the writing staff clearly had no idea what the **** they wanted and it seemed every individual writer wrote random **** for their own damn selves.

It seemed like each writer that wrote for this "fanservice series" didn't try to make any effort in some way to work with each other to add consistency throughout the series to make it appear like they were trying to build a story for this "anniversary series."

But they didn't, and the end result was basically.....Aikawa wrote his episodes based on HIS INTERPRETATION OF DECADE, Kobayashi wrote her episodes based on HER INTERPRETATION OF DECADE (and more Den-O spam), Inoue wrote his episodes based on HIS INTERPRETATION OF DECADE, and Yonemura did the same as everyone else.....but worse.

Neither writer in the Decade writing staff appeared to not wanna work with each other, so we just got a messy plot as well as a messy execution of a messy plot.

Even a series that was JUST STRAIGHT FANSERVICE, it would have had a better "execution" of a messy plot than this one.

A concept of an all-powerful, ominpresent Rider like Decade was ruined because of an inconsistent writing staff with even some additional blame to the rest of the production crew as well.

Unpredictable is good in most cases. It can keep you guessing. DCD wasn't unpredictable in a good way. It was only like that because the writers didn't have a clue as to what they were doing.

That's what I have kept advocating. If they really couldn't get the alumni (and I still find it hard to believe after thy managed to get so much of the Hibiki and Den-O cast back), this would have been the next best thing.

Honestly, I think this would have probably been significantly less satisfying for me. It would have ended up either retreading the old story points of the original series, or tacking on unnecessarily to an already complete story. What made the AUs interesting was how they twisted the original concept of the series to make a completely different story.

I also have to say that Decade is a blast from a metafictional standpoint. I don't think I've enjoyed something from that perspective as much since Final Crisis. In fact, I can only dream how brilliant Decade would be as written by Grant Morrison.

Yes, because turning the Ryuki world into one where they're all lawyers who fight for their clients is so much more fascinating than the original plot >>

Each World had an exclusive villain (an aspect I liked), so it's not as though this scenario would have been a complete copy of the original. Heck, you could even keep most of the plots from each World two-parter, just eliminate the AU Riders and adjust accordingly. And then for the movie, try to get as many of the alumni as you can for a grand ten-Rider team-up.

That would be fanservice. I don't get how what we saw in Decade was fanservice, unless all it means is reusing old costumes. If that's the case, that's rather shallow.

Black Fang, your idea isn't inherently better than the AU concept, and it'd also greatly reduce the amount of team ups and Riders in the show. You'd end up with a less commercially succesful product which would fail just as much in providing fan service.

It's not like the AUs were just reused suits, they were twists based on the original concepts. Now, some weren't successful, but an original story in the old worlds... but without all the characters that made people attached to those worlds could easily fail too.

The same people who complain about AUs, in the scenario that you've proposed, would complain about the worlds not feeling like the original series because most of the cast wouldn't be around (and the writer would often be different too).

Personally, I think they could have gone with the original worlds, and used suit-only appearances for characters without their original actors, but that would also get a fair amount of complaints... which, really, don't matter in the end. There would always be complaints in or way or another from fans regarding the use of a past series by the newer one.

Aside from that, getting past actors to a summer movie with a limited schedule like Decade's would be problematic too, especially considering the script and the presence or absence of actors. Something with a less strict schedule would probably work out much better. Maybe the original Movie Wars? Although a reunion wasn't Toei's objective at all with that movie.
