Huge Japan News!!!

is their a reason to panic?

hmmm b/c it means that potential our source of raws will be gone... and we'ld have to wait until stuff comes out on dvd before we get to watch it? and/or potentially every fansubbing group shutting down because we can't get our hands on the raws...and don't have enough money to buy the r2's ourselves?

Yeah, I'd say there's plenty of reason to panic.

Now we got problems. Doesn't Japan know that a fanbase like this exists?

Do you honestly think they give a **** about US? This fanbase's existence is not going to affect their decision. The Japanese ISPs are just trying to cover their asses, but I can't help but wonder if their government isn't in on it as well... :eyebrow:

After reading the article again, it seems that this is a money issue because first off the ban is coming from Japan's four internet providers and not the Japanese Government themselves. Second the main reason why they are doing this is because the entertainment industry in general in Japan is pressuring these providers to do it. Its sort of like what happen to us in the U.S last year with Viacom and other companies pressuring Youtube about the stuff thats was uploading which lead to the purging of the site.

So basically unless they are other internet providers in Japan, I'd say we are screwed. We should probably get as much stuff downloaded as possible before the hammer comes down.

I'm not getting too worried about this. I'd be really surprised if it totally cut off all raws and killed fansubbing stone dead just like that. There might be a brief delay but something will inevitably spring up. I think the worst that would happen is it'll just take a little longer to get the stuff. In the VHS/pre -filesharing days we had to wait about a month to get 4 new episodes of a show, but I highly doubt it will be anything that bad.

On the other hand, if it is going to be that bad, now might be a good time to get a friend in Japan who's willing to record it every week and send it to you. Someone that ideally isn't me since I have no clue how to do that.

So are you saying there might be a way around it to the point that they might reverse what they doing?
