How to edit signatures

Sorry for the silly question, but have been trying to edit my signature and have had no such luck recently. Anyone who can lend any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Look in the top-right corner. Above the search bar you will see your username, then "inbox", then "alerts". Hover your mouse pointer over your username and a window appears with multiple options; One of them is "signature". Click it and it will take you straight to the signature editing page.

Huh.....When I hover over my username, "signature" doesn't show up. Strange....

Oh that sucks. Just to be clear, not the username next to your avatar square.
Within the window it's on the left hand side, underneath "Personal Details", for me.

Tried that too...says I don't have permission to view that. Im all sorts of confused.
