Be careful with interpreting this and the 'kawaii' part. Japanese often laugh friendly and applaud you not because you use Japanese but because your accent is too funny. Kawaii can also be used in that context, meaning you (as an adult) use the Japanese of a 4-old, which is funny in an endearing way to them.
