Humanity's old home, Earth, was always a fairly crowded place that just seemed to get more and more crowded as time went on. Between people, plants and every other creature there just wasnt a whole lot of room left after a certain point. it was fortuneate that man had eventually gained the ability to go out into space and manipulate the traits of a planet into order to make it more suitable for human life. Soon enough an even known as the Great Exodus occured as a mass migration left earth and began establishing colonies on other worlds and adapting them to suit the life of our world allowing man to extend it's reach throughout the solar system, and eventually throughout the galaxym Throughout this colonization and expansion earth mainted a large scale governing body whose authority extended through all of it's colonies maintaining order. The expansion allowed for further advances as well as the discovery of various new metals and resources on other worlds which were stronger than any found back on earth. It was through the pursuit of one of these mineral rich planets that our story truly begins. A galactic mining company known as the Kel Moria Combine, hailing from the colony world known as Kel Moria, had focused allof it's efforts on finding as many mineral rich worlds as possible before other rival companies could la a claim to them. Through these expeditions they had located a planet far outside of the limits outside of the Galactic Federation which their surveys detected a large amount of rare metals as well as new metals not found within the federation borders. They claimed the planet and christened it Terra Neros due to the dark coloration of it's terrain and financed a a colonization expedition to the planet. Should the project be successful they would gain a twofold victory by gaining a thoroughly rich planet and possibly gain credit for triggering a second Great Exodus. And thus they dispatched a massive colony ship full of Kel Moria workers and their families, a load of terraforming gear, other colonists looking for work, people that knew how to work the land and a load of plants and animals. With a full Galactic Federation military escort they left federation borders to start of their new lives in Terra Neros.
To put it simply, things did not go as planned. It began with bits of sabotage from a small rival company trying to keep Kel Moria ffrom monopolizing mining operations causing the colony ship to get their in twice the projected amount of time. To make matters worse more technical difficulties popped up when they descended to the planet's surface causing damage to the terra forming equipment, many injuries, damaged the communications equipment, the loss of a little less than half of the supplies. Immidiately after wards those that had survived the crash and were able bodied immidiately began fighting over who got control and how the supplies got divided up. The greedy military officiers attempted to horde the supplies but were opposed by the tough and well built miners who found them at fault for letting the problems get this bad. The other colonists blamed both sides for the problems as well as each other. As far as leadership went the miners and military clashed yet again as the military personnel immidiately tried to seize the reigns but were repelled yet again as the others flat out refused to listen to them are their overly strict regulations. The Kel Moria workers were also rejected as they were more focused on making money than anything else. Fear and paranoia ran rampant, within the panic was a group who believed that this was some sort of divine punishment for distancing themselves from their ancestral home, these people became known as the Returners. another group arose and found itself simply unable to deal with the rules and regulations of either side and left to form their own group which wouldsomeday grow into the Libertas Confederation. The Kel Moria workers did just what they came to do, began mining operations in order to prepare ore for when the home office finally came for them. The military personnel formed into a group known as the Vanguard which dedicated itself to establishing a sort of orderly governing body that could survive the rough times to come.
The four factions separated and ran things in their territory in their own ways but as time went on and the need for more territory grew the factions ended up running into each other again, and this time more violently. Not wanting to give up whatever land they found each faction fielded humanoid combat vehicles simply named mechs with designs brought with them from earth which thanks to their cheap and easy construction managed to produce in large numbers for the territory wars. The large scale wars raged on and the sttlments founded by the four factions ended up being ravaged reducing many areas to simple junk towns. While none of the factions wished to just give up the all agreed that full on warfare was only doing more harm than good. On that historic occasion a new method of deciding what faction got what pieces of territory on the planet. A small scale version of mecha warfare known as the Sector Royale where each faction would field a team of four mechs piloted by four of their best pilots every ten years. A series of team vs team matches where a sector of the planet was offered up as the prize. The winners would get to keep that area and control it as they saw fit, and the losers citizen's would have to leave and relocate or swear loyalty to the winning faction.
It has been a few hundred years since that fateful day, and the four factions still clash for control using this method. And spectators from all four always gather to watch their team fight for them. Foul play is common place inside and outside of the arena and is often encouraged by the higher ups in the various factions. The fights have rules but often no matter how a match starts tends to descend into an all out free for all which just fires up the crowds even more. The pilots become immortalized when they score many victories, and scorned when they give many losses. They sometimes even die before the competition ends and are promptly replaced like a pair of batteries. In the end though even if it still isnt pretty, its still a favorable alternative to war, and thats how it is gonna stay.

The Four Factions:
Kel Moria Combine:
The Kel Moria Combine which is more or less the remnants of a mining company which had originally funded the colonization of Terra Neros. They are more or less focused in on the many varieties of ores on the planet, specifically Jezemite which is one of the more durable metals known to man. Aside from minining they also focus many of their efforts on contacting the home office to revitalize interest in Terra Neros and possibly bring some stability to the planet, and deliver a nice big fat load of money for the work they had put into it. Their heavy mining operations tend to put a heavy toll on the planet as they dig through as much of it as possible to fill up their stores of the varying metals. Thanks to their exclusive access to the Jezemite ore which makes sensors go a little wonky and is all around tough their mechs tend to be tougher than those of the other factions.
Faction Bonus: Jezemite Armor
The Vanguard:
The Vanguard is made up of the remnants of the military force that escorted the colonists to Terra Neros. Like the Kel Moria Combine they havent maintained contact with their main point of origin but still maintain it's ideals. Their sectors tend to be more orderly and their mech teams much more organized. Their goal is to unite the planet under their somewhat totalitarian banner. They tend to forcibaly subjugate their citizens for the sake of maintaining order but their sectors remain relatively crime free though a little lifeless and robotic. Their mechs boast better sensors and more accurate weapons and their pilots are more organized and are capable of more complicated manuevers and formations
Faction Bonus: All-seeing sensors
The Libertas Confederation:
The polar opposite the Vanguard, Libertas Confederation is a society society pretty much does whatever it wants. They tend to dabble a little in alot of things but in their attempt to create a free society they tend to have little control over their citizens and they tend to be quite disorganized. Their mechs tend to be all around good but not great in any one area either.
Faction Bonus: All around boost
The Returners
And finally we have the Returners who just want to leave Terra Neros behind and return to earth, but lacks the resources to achieve that goal with the few sectors they control. They operate according to a religous doctrine which states that it was wrong for man to leave earth and that they must return to earth to save their souls. Their society is based within and around the crashed colony ship that brought them to Terra Neros as they as they focus much of their effort on reparing it. Their mechs tend to focus more on offense than anything else and thus have stronger than average weaponry.
Faction Bonus: Boosted weapons
The mechs:
Each faction posses access to all of these designs, though certain parameters depend on the faction they are from. They are cheap and easy to assemble and many tournament fighters purchase their own and add further customizations. Can be color customized according to owner's preferences. all come stanard with an AI assitant but some pilots prefer to work without them
Bear Series mechs:
Kodiak
A versatile, tough and well armed machine typically used by team leaders. Posses twin missile pods, machine gun a grenade launcher and a vibrosword. Thanks to it's armor and weapons it is weighed down quite a bit and thus requires a good team to support it in order to get the most out of it. Its heaviness is slightly offset by the treads on it's feet which. Due to it's heaviness it was built without jump jets as they would be useless.
Grizzly
A model based on the Kodiak but modified to be lighter and faster. It maintains similar effectiveness in combat but sacrifices much of it's versatility limiting it's armaments to a vibroaxe, bazooka and a machine gun. Unlike it's "brother" unit it posses jump jets which give it more mobility and it retains the foot treads of the Kodiak giving it better mobility than the Kodiak. It is also a favorite of team leaders and like the Kodiak works best when fielded with a proper support team.
Beast Series:
Mammoth
Essentially a great big walking tank optimized for defense. It tends to be big and slow but makes an excellent defender. It posseses a missle pod and a grenade launcher to keep enemies at a distance along with a vibrosword just in case an enemy gets too close.
Boar
Another heavily armored unit that utilizes heavy weapons which do alot of damage. Not meant to be used as a blocker and is more of a mobile turret.
As such it ditches the vibrosword and uses mostly powerful ranged weaponry while relying on it's armor to hold out if enemies get to close. While the mammoth tends to be near the front in formations the Boar tends to be near the back.
Leopard
A unit made to rush in with guns blazing to hammer the enemies as much as possible. With it's medium strength armor it can take some hits but often relies on it's mobility to dodge as many hits as possible while blasting away.
Bird Series:
Hawk
A unit that thrives on it's superior mobility, high powered sensors and hit and run tactics. Thanks to it's light armor is capable of some limited flight with it's jump jets allowing it to pop up from behind an object, fire and then take cover again really quickly. It posses a shotgun and machine gun and relies on dodging in order to stay alive in combat. When ffighting models that use Jezemite ore in their construction it is forced to rely on what the pilot sees.
Falcon
A rebalanced Bird series model which gives some thicker armor as well as less sensitive sensors which make dealing with Kel Moria models a little easier than with the Hawk. Has less powerful jump jets but more powerful weapons.
Serpent series:
Cobra
A smaller and harder to hit model whose distinctive feature is it's long range sniper rifle and limited stealth abilities. Also posseses a machine gun and a vibro knife.
Anaconda
Made with a similar method to the Grizzly, the Anaconda is a bigger variant of the Cobra which ditches the sniper rifle and uses more traditional heavy weapons. It has thichker armor but retains the limited stealth equipment.
Maintenance:
Spider
A non-combat model used to maintain other mechs.

History: Within Kel Moria territory there really are only a few proffessions that people could really pursue, the men are limited to mining, while the women are limited to farming within the territories, though mech dueling was also open to all but far more dangerous as well. Within those societies a person's worth went hand in hand with how well they excelled in either profession. It was only natural that Joseph found himself in the role of a miner which meant his value was determined but what he dug up and how much of it he dug up. Many chose to take a more easy route mining more mundane metals which allowed them to rely on more advanced mining equipment and was all around easier, but there were still plenty who chose to exclusively mine the Jezemite ore despite the fact that it rended most of their equipment useless making the best way to dig it up was good a good old fashioned pickaxe and the best way to find it was with a flash light and one's own two eyes. It was tough to say the least but it paid off for those who could handle it. Since the age of 16 he worked down in the Jezemite mines during the day and at night gathered together with buddies to watch mech fights which were being broadcast throughout the area. When it came to more dangerous and difficult proffession of Jezemite mining the miners were practically like brothers who looked out for each other down there to ensure that they would come back alive, and if one should die on the job, the nearest one would see to it that whatever was left behind was taken care of. Sure it wasnt the most exciting life but it was an honest and satisfying one. But that balance got up set during one day. It seemed normal enough as he, a good friend and a new guy of his were digging out the ore as usual when the new guy pulled something out of his uniform and chucked it further into the mine. Moments later it was revealed that the object was an explosive after the loud explosion was heard, causing the tunnel to begin to collapse. In the end the stranger bolted and vanished in the resulting chaos, and his friend was unfortuneately crushed in the collapsed tunnel.
As a result of the code he was obligated to see to it that the friend's infant daughter Brianna was taken care of, especially since her mother had passed away due to her poor health. He chose to take her in and raised her like she was his own actual daughter. Since that time he has been quite hesitant to even step in a Jezemite mine after the incident, and hasnt once forgotten the face of the one who caused the collapse either. Aside from doing his best to take care of his new found family and make sure he had enough to feed the both of them, he also sought out info on the bomber, learning he was a Vanguard citizen who was sent in to try and sabotage the Jezemite mining operation, hoping to cause a shortage of the Jezemite ore within the Kel Moria territories.
He didnt know if he could strike back at that person specifically, but he knew he could strike back at the Vanguard for what happened. In time he dropped his pickaxe and mining uniform and donned the bodysuit of a mecha fighter. He used his savings to buy himself a Kodiak model mech and began going through Kel Moria's sectors fighting in various small scale tournaments using his winnings to pay for modifications on his mech which he named Aesir. Five years later he has continued fighting on the circuit to earn money, and his adopted daughter now at the age of 6 watches his fights from home, cheering him on. Thanks to his zeal and the skill he has built up over time it was only natural that the Kel Moria Combine selected him to be one of their representatives in the Sector Royale tournament.
In addition to balancing act of fighting in mecha fights, and making time to com back home he has been doing what he can to find a woman to at least act as a sort of mother figure to Brianna as he knows that he by himself probably isnt quite enough to raise her right, though he hasnt been able to do that well in that field as he tends to be pretty damn busy when away from and at home. Not to mention the fact that the female fans that tend to find their way to him tend to not be the kind he would want Brianna to model herself after.
