Hard Drive Problemo

I have to agree about backing things up on DVD-R also look into something like drop box or something similarto it. One more thing if you have the money to splurge get an Solid State Drive(SSD) hard drive the are great.

Problem with that is, SSD drives are so much smaller then hard drives capacity-wise that if you're wanting to backup terabytes of data you would just need too many of them for it to be practical. My SSD I have currently can't even hold one Blu-Ray .ISO

Another problem with solid state drives is they're too expensive to be a practical backup solution for private use. That and it's still possible that it can go bad. DVDs are definitely one of the best ways to go right now.

Well any storage media can go bad. That's Life. It's about minimizing the chance of data loss as much as it makes sense to. It's just a fact that quality DVD-Rs have a longer shelf life than Mechanical Hard Drives. The tradeoff here is that the double hard drive solution will end up costing more, but the DVD-R solution will end up taking up a lot of your personal time waiting for discs to finish burning. No point going the SSD route due to cost, but even at that point USB thumb drives make more sense then an SSD if were talking about backups. When lightening hits your house and fries your PC, it's gonna fry your internal SSDs as well. I've seen it happen before.
