Got an HDTV last night...

Words words words
Last week I found out that my roommate wasn't coming back to our school (I'm guessing he got kicked out for never showing up to class), so I have our triple to myself and I had to get a new TV. I got a 26" Vizio LCD VW26L (1366x768), and I'm pretty disappointed with how my games look on it. I plugged in my PS3 thru HDMI and it looks really pixelated and jaggy, as if the resolution doesn't belong on the screen, no matter what resolution I use. Same thing with my 360 thru Component.

I plugged in my 360 thru VGA and the picture is a thousand times better, overall it looks really great, so I can't figure out why HDMI and Component look so butt ugly. Does anyone who plays games on an HDTV have any advice?

My 360 looks perfect when using VGA too. Especially when playing ME. :buttrock: I haven't tried PS3 before though. Is there a VGA for PS3? If it's pixelated, you could be using the wrong settings. :shakefist

I dont have an HDTV, but from what my friend told me, you have to play with the settings for a while before you get the right picture. He got a high end 1080p TV (cant remember the brand) and spent like 3 hours playing with settings before it looked perfect. So that maybe what it is, IDK.

I have like a first generation Sony HDTV and it is a piece of ****. Well... not really but compared to the TVs you see on display in some stores, this thing looks ancient. But the picture is pretty cool.

I'm planning on replacing it with a Samsung after I get my job at Fry's :)

Well, I have a 42' Vizio LCD HDTV that only goes up to 1080i and my PS3 is hooked up to it via HDMI yet everything ran smoothly for me. It autodetected the maximum resolution of my HDTV and all I had to do was switch off the audio from coming out of the HDTV via HDMI as I use the optical fiber cable for Dolby Digital/DTS sound. So in all honesty, it could be the settings but I'm not 100% sure.

Well, I lowered the sharpness and it made things a lot better... I can't believe I didn't think of that before.

for the ps3 set the hdmi up and set the resolution to 720p and disable 1080i,set the rbg to fulll in the display settings and use the "super white " setting as well also located in display settings.setting sharpness too high tells the games secrets so set to a little lower until it looks right to you.for instance on my tv my sharpness highest setting is 7 and the tv look perfect on 5...lol weird.

for the 360 i also use to use VGA but switched back to component when i decided to hook my computer to the tv.since you have what i believe is a 480p,720p,1080i tv i say switch the resolution to 720p because 1080i looks like hot moldy butt.also setting your black level will help things too. if you want to stay with the vga then forget what i just said. i ended up preferring the more vibrant colors of component cables to the direct signal colors of vga. either way congrats on the tv man. with a little setting up HDs can make things looks great. take care
