Godzilla 2014 Thread

Big G looks like he's CG. Still prefer a man in a suit.

Man in a suit as most fans want it would suck unless paired as motion capture with Andy Serkis as Godzilla or if it was done through motion capture altogether. It is in my opinion that Godzilla would not work in the United States unless it is done with the fullest of modern technologies that Japan cannot do itself, while perhaps taking the suitimation and enhancing it with the motion capture technology so it can walk differently and have the best of both worlds.

However, you would likely need the crew of Pacific Rim and the crew from any of Del Toro or Henson films to do this remotely good. Since that is likely short in supply, I'll take a well done CG Godzilla over a suit any day because I cannot see it being done well over here unless its motion capture or something really advanced with CG.

From what I understand Toho has required that some suitimation be used in the film. So it'll be mostly CG but we'll still get some suit action. Part of me wants Captain Gordon or the Xillian leader to show up, though it would totally go agains the feel of the movie.

Not really for the former in a future film where they build up to such an event, but the latter is a while off unless they go for space right now.

Part of me wants to see remakes of Mothra, Varan and Rodan to the big screen with similar takes so we can see how it would look today. The other half wants to see a redux of the Mothra vs Bagan concept.

Aw damnit! It was looking so good and then they killed my enthusiasm at the end. Does this Godzilla need a cough sweet or something? My cat has made more fearsome noises than that! I know it's silly to get hung up on one little detail but that "roar" really bugs me :shakefist

And that is why we'll never get a real adaptation. *Sighs*

The thing with Suitmation...only those who are indie or Asylum will attempt that. Don't even understand why people are chicken of doing suit. Yeah, those like Stan Winston are gone, but doesn't mean suitmantion has to die with him.

If you think about it, suit is just as tedious a CGI...so I don't even get why.

Heck, use real animals and puppets...Toho used that too. I wanna see live animals busting up miniatures and puppet strings and hand puppets.

Not really, unless they really attempt at getting the suit right in the States, you might as well use it sparingly if at all. I'd personally only trust it if it were Legacy [Stan Winston] Effects, Digital Domain , or Del Toro's crew paired with a few imported from Japan to teach them how to not only design the suits like circa the 90's and 2000's internally [so the actor doesn't pass out from heat exhaustion] but how to maneuver the suit.

In my opinion, either do it right and compliment with modern tech and CG, or go home and just use CG.

The issue I think would be that to be honest, the recent suits after 1989 haven't been to par and or had a level of artificiality to them that wasn't worked out unfortunately. In a way, they felt either too clean or mixed. Aside from the stigma of the rubber suit, unless they get people from Japan to show them the works to maneuvering a suit and or making one that can pass American test audiences without a laugh, CG is a better route for now.

Also, we don't know if they are not using one anyways by one trailer. If it happens, it happens, but if it works well, I will be surprised because the last times they tried using two technologies together it jarred ala 1984 or 2000. I foresee motion capture, suitimation and computerized animation to be the effects utilized in this new film [series?] just because it makes the most sense.

New trailer...
