Is the movie made by the same people who worked on the show?

As far as I know, the key staffers are pretty much same.

I quite enjoyed the film, but I didn't expect it to be very much like the TV show just based on Amemiya's track record. He's not a guy who makes something, then makes it over again five years later with a bigger budget. If anything I expected Red Requiem to resemble the TV show even less than it actually did.

I think there is a pretty big difference in how the film handled action and how the TV show did. That difference is probably 100% attributable to the change of format and technology. The fights are longer and slower because of the film's 90 minute runtime and the fact it was filmed in 3D.

I think what the movie did worked okay for what the movie had to be. There's room for improvement in Amemiya's handling of the style, certainly. Some fights have beats that look far too fake and stagey, but if you go back to his older stuff when he was just starting to work with CG, you see similar growing pains.

Although I had a :sly: face the entire movie, then I looked it up: I fuckin' knew it, Karma is played by the fapworthy Saori Hara

You forget though, the specials were TWO 50 episodes, making the run time about 100 minutes.

Yeah, but if they're split into two installments that's going to call for very different pacing than a single 90-minute film.

It shouldn't matter, the movie should still be paced good no matter what. You cannot hide crap by saying they had to stretch it out into a movie as an excuse. Maybe they should have just made the movie 70 minutes instead of 100.

What is good pacing in a TV episode or special is not necessarily good pacing as a film. Different mediums have different demands, driven largely by runtime and how the audience is expected to be viewing the work in question.

I thought the pacing was decently balanced in proportion to the runtime.

Still, my main grievance is the massively noticeable slowdown in the action choreography. What on earth happened there?

Also, the movie's fights are a lot longer on the whole than the TV series and special fights. Really long fight scenes tend to be more slowly-paced than short ones, just so it's easier to keep track of the back-and-forth between the combatants.
