Inui Takumi
The Ends JustiΦ's the Means
That is just it, for a movie, this should have been a high budget tv episode, instead, it felt like a pilot to the series. Look at the CGI when Garo is fighting the bull-like Horror towards the beginning of the movie. The CGI on his costume looks like something out of an X-Box game. The TV series may not have had the greatest CGI ever at times, but it was far better than anything during that fight scene. Garo just looked so out of place with the background that you could tell that green screened him in there. It also does not help that the battle was boring.
As for the last fight Inui, it was the best because it was the only fight that felt like Garo. This is a show that gave us the most amazing battles such as Zero vs Garo down the side of a building, Kiba vs Garo on a disc throughout the sky, and the horizontal battle in the forest form the white knight special. The one thing Garo has always had was choreography and epic battle sequences with a grand score to go with it. This movie had none of those except for the final one, which still only had the epic battle sequences. It was still missing the other two. In fact, as far as the score is concerned, only the score during the credits even felt energetic.
Back on the subject of the Makai Priests, what was their purpose anyway? The old dude did nothing but whine about his wife and daughter and then sacrifice himself. The young dude just stood in the background half the time and did absolutely nothing except to say that the Horror location has been found.
I also did not like how they changed Kouga's father's actor to the chief from Ryuki.
I don't think as much of it was CGI as you think, though there are some shots that look suspicious. Either way, that doesnt matter too much. there was a high chance the CG in this was gonna suck anyway, considering the CG in the series sucked too. We should be used to that by now, as a lot of Toku CGI is questionable in general.
As far as fights go, I can see your point about having unique and dynamic battle grounds for great choreographed battles and the lack of it here. But I still didn't think the choreography was too bad, just lacked a bit of energy at times. And like Hell Kaiser said, I prefer the out-of-suit battles in Garo as opposed to the in-suit-battles most of the time anyway.
And I dont think that guy was Kouga's father. He was Rekka's father who trained Kouga to be a Makai Knight after his father died. That's why he said he heard the music that Rekka was playing while he was injured. Her father showed him that song when he was younger.
