Kinect is something new. It has FAR more potential than Move and Wii better look out.

Think about Kinect, that I've been saying since the beginning is that it's not just a game accessory. It could be a revolutionary interface piece of hardware.

And in the next XBox, it will probably be integrated. This will encourage developers who will know how many people have access to this to drop Kinect games on LIVE.

I still say the damn thing still needs at least a stick to move characters. I just can't imagine many people wanting to walk around all the time just to reach X spot in a game.

The problem is, by all reports of people who have actually played it, the Kinect, in its current form is a buggy, glitchy, laggy, unresponsive mess. Far more so than early Wii games and more rooted in the hardware itself than anything that programmers have to learn to work with.

This is assuming there even IS a next X-Box at this rate. Especially if the rumors that Microsoft is planning to eject itself from the gaming market if the Kinect doesn't perform some kind of major miracle and makes the X-Box division profitable (which it has never been despite all its sales), pan out.

Now, as for the technology behind the Kinect itself? I can see this current version being a test for something that will be used in some other computer system later on down the road, in a much more refined state but being the savior for the 360... not so much.

I saw an article on engadget about Kinect tech being used in future TVs...thought that's much later on and not now.

Especially if the rumors that Microsoft is planning to eject itself from the gaming market if the Kinect doesn't perform some kind of major miracle and makes the X-Box division profitable (which it has never been despite all its sales), pan out..

That rumor just cracks me up. I swear some people will make up anything. The xbox sells excellent in every country that isn't Japan. For anyone to say they are pulling out of the game market is silly. And before anyone gives me the "I heard it from here or there" rumor mill excuses, don't bother. The only way it would be any kind of valid news is if it came from MS themselves. Ans as far as the "savior" thing for the 360 that is also rather silly. The only thing MS would stop doing is motion game if kinect fails. There are always going to be people that want to say so and so company is going down. I just find it damn funny when people say it about Nintendo, MS or sony. I mean remember a while back when nintendo was "rumors say nintendo is going the way of sega and becoming a game publishing company only"

Um, the XBox has been profitable and is one of the biggest and best things Microsoft has going for it. Where'd you hear this non-sense? If anything they're fine with taking a loss on Kinect to get it out in the public consciousness and then perfect it. And once that's done and it's in the next console.... that's a killer app.

Not to mention it's already been announced that the Kinect is going to be available for TV's and computers as well, not just the 360.

The only reason I myself thought this might be true (besides wishful thinking ) is because Steve Balmer recently took over the gaming devision of Microsoft. I just wouldnt be very surprised if he took it down just because it's not profitable enough compared to their other products. It was still running at a loss a while ago too, or is it still?

While I don't like MS being in gaming I dont want them to stop either I guess cause no competition for Sony is never a good thing.

Yeah those nintendo guys with their wii are in last place. They are no competition for anyone. :sly::redface2: I don't get fanboys. You say it's wishful thinking that you want the rumor to be true, and then you say you don't want them out of gaming. Which is it? I mean I don't like where sony has gone with the PS3, but I don't want them out of gaming. The PS1 and PS2 where great systems. I also think the PS3, even though I don't like it as much as the wii and 360, is a good system. Again I don't get fanboys.
