Foundation X & Continuity in Kamen Rider?

Continuity is an opportunity to build up characters, organizations or story elements over time. I think it's part of the reason the original riders are thought of and portrayed as some of the baddest dudes of all time.

I also like that loyal fans can get a sort of payoff for their continued viewership. It's not required but I find it a nice thing to have once in a while. I'd like to see more overt scenes connecting to past series but I'm also ok with the small doses so far.

while thats fair, i don't think a lot of these little winks and nods have really done much to help with character building, which if they're going to establish continuity, i would figure that would be their first goal. but apparently not.

Foundation X happens to be this generation's Great Leader. However they happen to be investors than an evil entity. Which makes them very complex, since they don't care what the goals of the orginazations they fund as long as they get what they want. So to them, world peace or domination is very profitable. They'll only get involve directly, if the Riders start meddling in their affairs. But most of the times, they would keep their distance.

As for continuity, it was set up in W when Kazu told Ryubei that FX has other projects than just Gaia Memories. In fact during the finale they showed an interest in the O Medals. Right now they're currently invested in the Switches & Cosmic Energy.

I disagree on that making them complex, if anything its kept vague on purpose

I think having some continuity just makes for more interesting stories. It's always kind of a letdown when a self-contained series throws out ideas that it never intends to follow up on because once the show's done, it's done. I wanted to know more about 3WA from the Kiva movie, or what happens after Faiz. There's so much more you could do with the original TV world of Hibiki. I want to see the characters having a life beyond their own series.

I also think it's cool that we can have a movie where this happens:

and it doesn't have to involve some technobabble or time travel or alternate realities. They just all happen to live in the same world and when they want to cross paths, they do. And there's also a great reason behind why they come together: a plot thread from the end of one show that laid low for a year has suddenly resurfaced again.

Continuity does not have to be this oppressive thing that restricts creative freedom. You can even ignore it for dramatic convenience, I'm fine with that. Two shows can share a universe without ever having anything to do with each other and get by just fine. But I like having the possibility that they can have something to do with each other, and that maybe those weird little throwaway ideas from one show can amount to something some day.

while i do agree with you, there IS a part of me that loves the technobabble and such. And while i guess it is more convenient to already have them in the same universe i just worry that it COULD become a damper on writer's creativity if the only main reoccurring element is Foundation X. I believe that could get old pretty fast.

I think mostly I'm just sick of crossovers being read into so much, and i personally don't like that crossovers are becoming the vast majority of Kamen Rider movies. I'd rather them expand on a series respective universe and maybe have the previous rider get involved and i would rather not get an all riders crossover every year.
