First (and horrible) brazillian Sentai: MEGA POWERS!

Menace of the Fandom Menace
First of all: I'm brazillian, so, I can say it's fu**ing terrible.

I was thinking if I should do this thread or not. But...

Brazil is having a for the first time a toku that is not fan made: Mega Powers.

Mega Powers is made by Vídeo Brinquedo (Toy Video in english). Vídeo Brinquedo is famous in Brazil for it's ridiculous direct-to-dvd "adaptations" from movies that aren't out yet (when they release their adaptations obviously).

Disney's Cars became "Os Carrinhos" (or The Little Cars in English).

Disney's Ratatouile turned to Ratatoing.

And Transformers became Gladiformers.

After all this sh*t, they're releasing the first brazillian super sentai: Mega Powers, shot in Rio de Janeiro. With a look that's uglier than kill your mother after finding that she works as a b*tch and visual efects from last generation (really, very old generation), the team fights against alien invaders called Mologs using a CG mecha called Giant Warrior Mega Power. Unluckily the producers are trying to take this to television, but luckily I don't think they'll do this 'cause even Ryukendo was refused. You can see two videos here:

So, if you guys want, I can try to sub this in january'08.

Oh lord. Gladiformers? Nice.

The name Mega Powers made me laugh pretty hard...I'm not gonna bother watching the videos, lol. This is interesting though, albeit pretty dumb-sounding from what you've said.

Since you brought that up, I caught this today:

Yeah, I saw another that was a ripoff of Charlotte's Web! Forgot what it was called, but the CGI looked absolutely horrible. Even I can do better animation in my student work!

And the ripping off of Pixar is so shameless, it's embarrassing.

Do you really think it's worth it?

This looks like a really bad fanfilm. The heroes look like a cross between Super Sentai and Ultraman. (Props to Video Brinquedo, though, for using a Mazinger-style giant robot and villain.)

My goodness!! Are you sure it's not fanmade? Because it sure looks fanmade. Has a very "France Five" feel to it. Maybe it's just very low budget.

But other than that, as you said it looks (fork)ing terrible!!

And the name "Mega Powers" definately sounds like something that came from an Acme Random Power Ranger Ripoff Name Generator.

Hey, Brazil loved Changeman and Flashman and Maskman, so why not?

Hey, CHangeman is CULT here! =D I loved both Changeman and Maskman when I was a kid, and the idea of a brazillian-made sentai is actually very cool. But, when you do see the thing, you think: OMG, IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUH BETTER!

Maybe I'll buy the DVD (it's something like US$ 3.00 or 4.00) and sub the first episode for you guys to see. They've made six episodes so far and in the sixth episode a black ranger appears... So, the show is probably a copy from Dino Thunder.

Well, yeh, that was.....interesting.

I cant really blame them for having outdated effects. I guess the station didnt the bugdet or the technology to make a show to the grade of Sentai or PR. Even SportRanger from Thailand looked like it had better CG and special effects. Good attempt though I guess. But, yeh, interesting.

I especially like how the name Mega Powers wasnt aligned right on the logo. That was pretty funny.
