[Video Game] Dragon Age: Origins SUUUUUUUUCKS!

:musashowned:

That's not a positive musashi owned, I'm just using it because it's the only emoticon which uses physical violence.

Guys this is not my first game of this style, nor is this my first video game ever.

Final Fantasy 12 did this idea so much better.

I just cant understand how you guys can get behind this control scheme. Its just terrible. Its abysmal in the extreme. I cant get my characters to do anything right, the idiotic AI just doesn't do anything you tell it to.

I mean dont get me wrong, the whole reason why I tried to push through it was because i love the story so far, i've done a lot of reading and I really enjoy it. But the game just feels so bad control-wise it frustrates me to no end.

And yes KingRanger, I believe that the game sucks, therefore, in my opinion, the game sucks.

FF12 and this game have different control schemes. I am not sure how you are likening the two games.

Are you playing on console or PC?

You are saying the controls suck. Again are you playing on PC or console. If you are playing on console then you should give it up now. DAO is one of the reasons I started gaming on PC more and more.

True. IIRC the console versions have a command ring type interface which the PC version does not have.

PC is best played with a mouse and keyboard.

And I agree that its a very easy game. I never thought I would ever read a complaint about someone having difficulty with DAO ever :).
EDIT: On the first woods you pretty much can get by with focus fire on normal difficulty.

The first time I had any kind of trouble in a battle in DAO were a few of the boss battles underground. Other than that it's pretty smooth.

PC, and Final Fantasy 12 is very similar in idea to this game fighting-wise. You have a group of characters who you can swap back and forth on the fly but cant actually control any but one of them at any time. You have to control the others either with pause functionality, or a tactics system that allows them to do a certain command if certain conditions are met.

Except in FF12 I can actually control my characters and attack without having to throw my keyboard across the room in utter frustration. FF12 EASES you into this idea, slowly giving you abilities as you proceed through the story.

Dragon Age Origins just throws you into the game with BARELY any kind of intro, gameplay-wise, and then forces you to try to acclimate yourself to a control scheme and battle style completely unknown to you except a few minor abilites you learn depending on what intro you start with.

And again, the Mouse/Keyboard control scheme is just absolute ****. You cant keep up with your characters or target enemies because your mouse-click does EVERYTHING. Theres no way to change how you attack without causing issues with your characters. Its basically an MMO if you didnt have a hotkey system for your basic attack. If I could just move that ability to a hotkey instead of using right-click to do it , it might salvage the game somewhat.

And once again your characters are dumb as BRICKS, doing things that make NO SENSE in the context of the fight you're currently in. The tactics system just does not work, and you're forced to try to salvage some simblance of a tactic with enemies who are designed to be fought by more than one person.

There are a lot of games where you can do what you described.

Once again, it's not the game it's you not reading the manual and in game tutorial stuff.

It tells you exactly what to do.

It sounds to me like you are new at PC gaming in general.

The tactics system works near perfectly. If it didn't, the game would not have done as well as it did.

Just thought about what you said. Went back, stopped the AI. Tried to get my characters to work tactically by placement and micromanaging.

Total party wipe in 5 minutes.

Yeah, it must just be me.

I'm also of the (minority) opinion that FF12's tactics are better than DA:O's, but they're two entirely different games. In FF12 you'll be focusing on whatever character you're controlling at that time, in DA:O, you'll have to look at the whole picture all of the time.

The PC version has a full out zoom that makes keeping yourself abreast of everything happening pretty convenient.

You just described 99% of PC rpgs, since freaking baldur's gate if not earlier. And, yes, you are the only one who has these problems. I played it on both PC and Consoles and had little to no problem controling my characters and their actions. There's tactics system similar to ff12 btw, so you can tweak your AIs behavior.
