Don't you just hate it...

When someone who has no idea what they're talking about tries to hype a genre to make it seem more extreme?

I recently read this one person's post about tokusatsu at another message board and the things he said physically made me sick. Ugh....

Here, I'll quote some things from his post.

Minor violence/blood:

Besides anime, there are Japanese shows known as Tokusaust. These are live-action shows such as Gojira/Godzilla, Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, etc. A few punches/kicks seen very rarely in the Japnese version of Yu-Gi-Oh are nothing compared to the amount of similar things that happens in the majority of these shows

In 'Hyakkujuu Sentai GaoRanger', the heroes are often wounded and bleed. If they shouw that if live-action, having an anime character bleed during their duel in Battle City is by no means adult by Japanese TV show standards.
This already is making me soil myself in frustration.

Threat of death/actual death:

Okay, there's a big difference here:

American/English parents tend to complain about these things.
Japanese parents actually realise that cutting someone's legs off or having them fall off a building over a card game is ludicrous and just laugh at it.

Mikoto Nakadai's death in 'Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger' had him drenched in his own blood (and I remind you, that this is live-action).
....

This makes me wonder if he even remembers to see all of Abaranger beforehand.

Okay, this one made me laugh and cry at the same time:
Anime "nudity":

Zyuranger (and this is apparently confirmed) had the heroes nude during their 'transformation sequence.' This is also live-action. If this isn't considered adult by Japanese TV standards, there's no way naked two-dimensional computer-animated images are.
This makes me believe that this person has no idea what he is talking about and is going only by heresay.

Anyone else met someone like this? Overglorifing the genre to make it seem more "extreme"?

Nani? I didn't know the ZyuRangers were nude during transformation sequences?

Perhaps I'd better re-watch the Transformation sequence then..

.. after I watch this episode of SolBrain.. :eplus2:

Wrong. That was in Maskman.

The person who said that, is dumbass.

Correct if I'm wrong...

Sailormoon (original anime as well as the manga) was directed towards the tweens (10-12), right? And both the manga and the anime contained nudity as well as "blood" so what's the big deal? The Japanese aren't Americans with a closeminded attitude towards life and death let alone sexuality. What's the point that person trying to make?

Pojo. It's a gaming site. This poor sap must have been one of the "cool people" to see one or two Sentai episodes.

Seriously? I have no idea. My brain shutoff halfway between Bullshit Avenue and Stupid Lane.

Wait wait wait. Is this true? Not that I'll try to find someplace to download episodes now or anything I was just wondering if it was true for my own personal knowledge... *Takes a deep breath and runs off to hide*

Maskman had "nudity," but it was more comical than anything.

Their transformation sequence was them getting down to their undies, jumping up in the air, going through a dimension slip of their Aura Power, and then coming out as Maskmen.

Oh, and the opening sequence with the muscle dude in the undies, but that's it.

I think they most likely wanted it to be fully nude, but they obviously couldn't do it...it was a frontal shot and Japan has that little issue with full frontal nudity...and people say Americans have nudity issues...our government doesn't require the pixeling out of genitalia in movies! Even in their skin flicks! Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

Liveman had nudity, though. Unfortunately (for the male viewers), it was Yutaka Hirose's ass...
