Nick pretty much turned into an empire once it started producing substantial amounts of original content. Which was... hey, about fifteen years ago.

This. CN's tried to keep up with Nick for years and never managed it.

News to me. Cartoon Network and Fox controlled everything around 1998 to 2001. The only thing I and most of my friends remembered about Nick was Rugrats, Spongebob, Thornberrys.

Your nostalgia trips don't involve Nick--what does that have to do with them being popular? They were ALWAYS huge.

The Ren and Stimpy Show, Rugrats, Kablam!, Rocko's Modern Life, Doug--dude, the freaking SNICK block. Nick was big long before Spongebob, its just the younger crowd doesn't remember it.

Nick also had All That, Kenan & Kel, Are You Afraid of The Dark, Roundhouse (that's for all my old school SNICK watchers right there), ANIMORPHS, etc.

CN didn't start dominating until Dragonball Z was picked up by their network and Toonami didn't start hitting off until the late 90s. Nick's dominance started in the early 90s, man.

Disney just had the Mickey Mouse club during the 90s, and Britney, Justin & all of them didn't get recognized for their Disney accolades until AFTER they got famous in the late 90s.

Fox.....you got us there, but Nick was still up there with them.

I mean are you really gonna knock Nick's credibility of their dominance in the 90s on children's TV?

What was airing on Fox? Some farmers ****, and COPS. 'Cause Fox Kids only aired from 6-11 on a Saturday. Sorry.

CN? Uhh...Cartoon Network has two notable things from the 90's. One of those things in Toonami. The other is Cartoon Cartoons. Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls never rivaled Nicktoons.

Disney's big drawing point was the Disney Vault and Disney Afternoon (again, a single block).

I know you want to believe Nick wasn't much, but...you're kinda young. To be honest with you, by the time it was 1998 or so, Fox Kids had fallen off SO hard from where they used to be in the early nineties, its embarassing.

CN struggled with finding viewers considering all they had was the leftovers from the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's in the 90's.

And Disney...they're huge NOW. But they had to create this fad of "channel grown" teen pop stars to do it.

Let's also keep in mind that for most of the '90s, Disney Channel was premium cable only. In fact, it was Nickelodeon that forced Disney Channel to go basic.

Yes, I know you mean more than just the Disney Channel, but Nickelodeon definitely had pulling power back then.

If only Nick could force Disney not being such a bitchass network. Regardless who was bigger when or where, Nick is probably reaching a height it has never gotten before.

I'm not sure they ever had such hot property of every show they released. iCarly gets massive ratings, True Jackson gets good ratings, Avatar got some serious ratings, Big Time Rush got a huge ratings spike in it's debut.
