Disney Era Power Rangers

Since this is the last week coming up of the Disney Era of Power Rangers. I firgured we could spend Today to next Saturday discussing what we liked or disliked about the era. You know like what was your favorite part of the era and what did you dislike. What was your favorite season and which you disliked the most. So on and So on...

I guess I go first. My favorite seasons were Ninja Storm and DT. I liked the actors they used for those 2 seasons. What I didn't like about the other seasons was wire-fu,lasers,bad acting, major plot holes, stupid creative ideas like Omega ball of light,a middle earth from mystic force that looked like some out of The Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. Another thing I didn't like was the theme music they used. SPD theme was awesome, but everything after it left a lot to be desired. Also I loved Disney promos for new seasons. Even though some of those seasons were shitty. It's not like they didn't try to promote them. That's about it for me. If I think of more I let you know...

My fav is RPM with NS and DT following closely behind it. I've always liked the dark seasons and most of them are technology based which I like and RPM was one of them. I hated MF and OO the most, hated the MF characters, OO had a plot that didn't really go anywhere, hate their villains. I also hated SPD, the characters were so bland and their sixth ranger was a ball of light like wtf, JF I did like though.

My fav is OO, for the overarching narrative, 5-way struggle for controls when it's usually just a 2-way and the twist that came late season. Plus Once a Ranger.

SPD......well, because i F-ing love Dekaranger and i liked the characters.

I didn't like NS, i could not take Lothor seriously because he too comical and not melodramatic enough, plus i was no fan of the actors.

DT, MF, JF and RPM where meh. don't love them, don't hate them.

My Top 5 Favs of the Disney era Ranger Series (in order of most fav):

1) Dino Thunder - I think most of the fandom can probably agree with me on why this would be somewhere on their top 3 list of Disney era PR series

2) RPM - That was an epically good series that I'd never thought I would see made under Disney's watchign eyes

3) Ninja Storm - I don't know why the fandom bashes this series a lot, it seemed fine to me. I wasn't shitastic awesome, but it was a decent enough series.

4) Mystic Force - Despite it making a somewhat copycat storyline of the Magiranger plot, it was still a decent series IMO

5) SPD - I understand why people struggled with this series........it had storylines jumping everywhere in every direction, and there was no control of what the **** was going on. Not to mention the 6th ranger was made of a ball of fucking light until the end of the series where he finally returned to his human form. But ****, it's better than the 2 worst series in this era IMO (Jungle Fury & Operation Overdrive)

My favorite of the era was S.P.D. Although the season had its flaws like any other, I still thought it was considerably better the other Disney seasons. What appealed to me most were the characters and the emotional aspects put into them. Cruger losing his wife and refusing to fight, Sky trying to follow in his late-father's footsteps and resenting Jack, ect. I also loved the chemistry between John Tui and Michelle Langstone. The two of them played off each other nicely, delivering performances that went well above what I expected from PR. And on a shallow note.... Michelle is freaking hot!

Although I do have my complaints. The last several episodes were terribly rushed. The A-Squad thing should've been drawn out longer, in my opinion. Had they really put the time and effort in, that team could've been incredible. Rangers who betray their commander by their own free will is a kick ass idea. They just didn't have the time to make the most of that concept. And yes, Omega. The idea itself wasn't all that bad to me, but they should've gone about it in a different way.

R.P.M. and Dino Thunder were also enjoyable to me. The other seasons though.... not so much. I watched some episodes of each, but other than those three mentioned above, none really appealed to me. At least not enough to hold my interest long-term.

I felt Disney's magic from NS - SPD. Very excellent Disney seasons right there. I find NS the most fun to watch out of those seasons. Heck, I even enjoyed watching Lothor.

Then comes MS. I don't remember exactly why I hate but it was just a few episodes that I sat through and I found myself just getting bored. Maybe it just didn't interest me much(well, neither did Magiranger). Same goes with OO but when JF came I actually watched a good amount of it because it seemed fun from the first episode. I do remember just not tuning into ABC Kids after a couple of episodes. I didn't hate JF, PR just doesn't interest me from that point so I never watched RPM.

I was well aware of the Kalish-splosions from the OO episode where they had the PR reunion. I just laughed my ass off at the amount of pyro and slow-mo used in that episode.

Well, speaking as someone who did enjoy Magiranger, I found MF to be atrocious to watch, and I eventually kinda gave up on it.

Disney PR? I can talk Disney PR! First in a series of posts.
Following opinions are all personal, natch, so. Y'know.

Top Tier: Ninja Storm
- Power Rangers finally gets its own Carranger parody series! There was decent talent running around Disney round when this was airing; Kim Possible was in full swing at the same time, and seemed as if everyone was learning how to write from that team. This show was a laugh a minute, as long as you paid attention to the dialogue.
- Doug and Ann were superb EPs who knew how to keep PR lighthearted yet action-packed. They took their lessons more from Zeo and less from Turbo, which was a good thing. Their taste in season finales wasn't so hot, but it was forgivable, especially given the NS/DT team-up.
- I love the cast to bits. Yeah, they say "dude" and lots of Surf Ninjas slang a lot, but
(a) I liked Surf Ninjas, dammit and
(b) Even with all the crazy slang, their dialogue felt natural for them. The entire cast had kickass onscreen chemistry. Not once did I feel that they were forcing themselves to act. They were just themselves. That hadn't happened on a PR before then (though later-era Time Force came close), and it wouldn't happen again until arguably RPM. They were convincing, and I fell in love with every single one of them... though probably Cam and Dustin the most.
- Here's when I get in trouble: I LOVED LOTHOR as the villain. (I think he should have whooped Mesogog.) A genre-savvy fourth-wall demolishing villain as the bad guy who constantly second-guesses the rules of villainy as he follows them simultaneously? Sign me the hell up. As far as his perceived lack of badassness... I dunno. The show constantly went out of its way to sell him as this total force with nothing but laser hands:

Even the groaners are funny. Which is good since this season has a lot of them.

When Ninja Storm ended, I really didn't want them to go. Fortunately DT picked up the slack, but I'd love to see another season with that cast. Ninja Storm, RPM and Time Force constantly fight with each other for the spot of Pixel's Favorite Season.

...and now I'm tapped. I'll write about the rest of my picks when my brain works again.

I too am one of those people, after 5 or 6 episodes I gave up on it but saw clips of later episodes and then I watched the finale, the finale was ok for the most part but the end was meh.
