[Discussion] Ninja Sentai Kakuranger

Do you mean those butt-ugly muscle man suits from MMPR the movie?

Yes. Those are exactly the ones I mean. Troll more.

They're made of a thicker material with layered segments more like armor. You'll notice a lot of these same elements, like the ridges around the major joints that help to hide the crumpling during movement, in KR Double's suit as well. And I'm taken to understand a lot of people like that suit.

This says nothing about the aesthetics of the actual designs, just the way the suit is made. Which is why I was careful to say the style of the movie Zyu-suits before.

Just a quick note to say that if you haven't been watching this, CATCH UP!!!

Ahem

After a run of episodes which were less comedic, but full of Dairanger-level action held together by Junior (a great bad guy who for me is just crazy enough to be menacing without being incompetent), the latest episode (#22) was the comedic 'Carranger pilot' episode. Next time out, a certain giant white falcon is swooping in for the first time to combine with the Mighty Shogun :anime:

Lemme say this:
After you watch this, it'll be pretty dang hard to watch the Fish-head rangers and Rito whatever his last name was again.

It's Reverto, Rito Reverto. But yeah, this had a much better usage of a ninja-theme than MMPR Season 3 did. Now, if Saban had actually gave the Kakuranger suits and Doron Changers to five of the main rangers instead of those aliens, the season would've been better, if you know what I mean.

I haven't watched 21 and 22 yet, but episode 20 was amazing. It might be one of my favorite Sentai episodes of all time. An actual effective villain plot, an annoying kid who learns to not be annoying, bad-ass out of suit fighting, the kunoichi summoning, then riding a missle, the kunoichi also shooting a machine gun while riding said missile, using the mecha's sword while it's on fire when not in the actual mecha, etc. Just all around great episode.

Looking at this thread made me realize that I seriously need to catchup!

So far I find this Sentai hilarious with some serious tones when they have them but I won't fully get there until I catchup. I'm excited to see what is to come and hopefully more character development with the core team.

I've only watched 14 episodes and still a lot better than Season 3 of MMPR.

 I kid. From the limited stuff I have seen of Kakuranger, we were really screwed when it came to Season 3.Should've made Tommy NinjaWhite with a new obsession of kilts.
