[Discussion] Chojin Sentai Jetman

not a fan of Jet Garuda, but I really, really love the Jet Machines. it's fun to see the jet model flying around on set spamming lasers at the MotW and I'm glad Gobusters brought back that awesomeness with Stag Buster's can't-remember-the-name-of-his-jet-mecha.

I like Jetman. Though recently, it kinda stopped being a favorite of mine. :P

I love the unique dynamics and inner conflict going on with the unprofessional team. And while I would've liked to see a bit more detail to it, I did like the idea of very normal people becoming superheroes. And I love Gai a lot. :anime:

What keeps Jetman from being a favorite of mine are a bunch of it's creative input. Or imo, lack of. I thought Jetman lacked in world building, didn't have very good villain/monster designs, or music that fit the series. And I did find some of the love stories to be a bit iffy. These were all elements that I thought were better executed in shows like Turboranger.

Overall, an excellent installment to the franchise

I've only seen up to about episode 25 without subs. Guess it is time to re-watch without subs to see what I missed out on. But my impression so far:

Gai is such a dick. Fandom made him out to be some awesome bad boy badass, which is not the same as a complete dick. Maybe subs will change this? Or maybe this changes with the latter half of the season? Not holding my breath though, but at least he makes for one of the more interesting characters.

Not sure why everyone (Raita, Gai) is in love with Kaori. But whatevers, it makes for decent entertainment. But only when the characters aren't pissing me off: Gai (and Kaori I guess) can't take no for an answer, Ryu can't flat out say - no, not interested. Come on. :rolleyes2:

Gai is the last of lets say the representation of Showa style bad boys. yes, this is a heisei series, but the actors were of the showa generation still. I felt that sentai wasn't truly heisei until gaoranger when sentai was no longer filmed in 17mm.

But Gai gets a lot of development. If I could be a bad ass, I'd be him. Ryu has turned down Kaori saying that as professionals, they shouldnt be emtionally involved etc

Gai underwent the greatest development in this series, so you should keep watching. As for me, I do enjoy Gai's bad boy persona and to me he represented a bygone era that used to be about hard knocking and bad attitudes, and his transformation is almost like a metaphor from Showa to Hensei period of toku history.
