Den-O loosing Steam

Yeah, it really is pointless to call it a "Cross over" If the characters are gonna show up just for shits and giggles.

I really expected Decade to have a bigger role in the film.

well...meh

I din't really care about how much time he had on the film

I was too busy thinking about Den-O

You have to admit, it was pretty funny how the Decade characters knocked on the fourth wall at times.

It had Diend summoning G3 and Ouja, two of the more lastingly popular non-main Riders, and saying, "There's some fan service for you".

That and Decade's "Well, that's all I'm needed for" bit when the giant battle ship showed up just got a good laugh out of me.

I think it was better then Climax Deka by leaps and bounds.

Actually, I think that was the worst :( Kaitou coming in just to be a dick, and leave. He could have killed the WORLD :/ Overall, not cool~ Even for an anit-hero. I mean, I'll admit. I am not familiar with those Riders (so fanservice is lost unfortunately :() But still, that is a bad plot move in my opinion

Even underneath all that, he still cares for Tsukasa & the others.

Its sad when you think of it. The Den-O universe is full of endless possibilities and adventures which could be used to create a franchise of its own. The problem is that Toei is too afraid of letting go of the Taros, so it gets dragged out instead.

As popular as the Taros are, they can't be used as supporting pillars, because in the end, it was Takeru & Co that stole the show.
The Taros were there to provide the wacky moments, but it was Ryotaro and the others who made the plot go around.

If you make a movie where you add the Taros and some new people, then... well, its not worth it anymore...
If there is no Ryotaro played by Takeru Satoh, then why bother having the Taros there?

Exactly. It was Takeru who made the show, the merchandising just helped it along. IMO Chou Den-O was not nearly the movie it could have been had Takeru been in it. Takuya Mizoguchi and Dori Sakurada are all right, but they can't carry the series the same way.

If anyone stole the show, it was indeed the Taros. It's always they who are the center of attention, and it's always they who get promoted. And it's always they that anyone, even the biggest Den-O fan, even remembers. The entire human cast of Den-O was more or less forgotten from the beginning. The actual story of Den-O (which was essentially Yuuto and Airi) and the premise (Ryotaro growing to become heroic) never got as much focus as it should have, and when it did it was done so mediocrely that it hardly mattered. It was always the Big 4 with sidekicks Deneb and Sieg and a bunch of humans who tag along.

The show itself had things well balanced from the beginning. The Taros didn't have their physical forms outside of the Denliner, which meant that half of their scenes involved possessing. I actually thought those scenes were kinda funny, as Takeru really handled the 4 personalities well, and it added a bit more to the story. Ryotaro had to save the world, while at the same time trying his best to live a normal life, despite being possessed by 4 imagin.

I agree that this was dropped in later episodes, but while they focused on this, it was actually funny.
As a tokusatsu fan, this might sound a bit weird, but when it comes to comedy and slapstick humor, I would much rather see them performed by an actor, whose mimic I can see, rather than some guys in colored kaijin-suits.

Things started to go in the right direction with the introduction of Liner Form, which finally gave Ryotaro some legroom to show that he could be a hero. Finally it was he who controlled the Taros and not the other way around...

BUT then whole thing totally collapsed. The Taros could suddenly move around freely outside the Denliner, and could even transform if they wanted to. And that is when the whole thing went into the wrong direction. If they all had their own belt, then Ryotaro would not have been needed at all...

So yeah, you are right fang, the show DID focus a lot on the Taros, but it was actually not that much until later episodes. And it was certainly not as much as in the movies.

If you ask me, a perfect ending to Den-O would have been to turn the Taros into humans. They wouldn't have had to drop the suits. They could still make an excuse that they could transform into their Imagin bodies for battles etc.
I just think it would have worked better for future movies / series
