And that episode is pretty much the exact plot that Saban used in PRiS too.

Hoo boy, episode 12, I don't think I can be remotely objective about this episode, it just spoke to me in a way that was almost painfully uncomfortable, it was exactly what I needed to have heard back when I was in high school but never got. Seriously, we all could probably have used a Mr. Oiwa in our lives when we were being Kouichiro, hung up on one stupid screw-up that didn't even matter.

If you'd asked me a month ago, I'd say Megaranger was well on course to be one of my favourite Sentai seasons. That's still the case, but the finale didn't quite do it for me. I know they wanted to portray the general populace as being frightened and unable to fight back, so they misdirect their anger at the Megarangers. But it went too far, to the point where I did just start wondering why the heroes were trying so desperately to save such dbags.

I agree. I myself were starting to question if those people were truly worth saving & protecting after their obnoxious attitudes towards the 5 Megarangers in episodes 49 to 51, after everything they did for them.

The BBC has at several points sold sound effect collections to other TV production companies - basically hours worth of sound effects that they've created over the years and have stuck on CD for other companies to buy and use (they wanted to monetise their vast library of the things). I'm guessing Toei bought one at some point.

I can't say those episodes are completely worthless. The stuff between Kubota and Hinelar was really good. But even aside from the way they portray the civilians as jerks, I think the final confrontation with the Nezirangers/rescuing the kidnapped people was where the series really peaked, and they just couldn't keep it at that level until the end. I hope Kakuranger doesn't do the same though *crosses fingers*

But there's a lot of good in this series. Mega Voyager is one of my favourite mechs. Yellow, Black and Pink are strong contenders for being my favourite rangers of their respective colours. INET are really cool. From what I've seen so far, the 90s might be my favourite era for Sentai.

Episode 13...the less said on this one the better; to the extent that episode 12 spoke to me, that was the extent to which episode 13 was just an awful muddled mess of hand-wringing melodrama that way overshot the mark and was just poorly thought out.

Episode 14 on the other hand, was a nice fun episode; sure, it was a kid of the week episode, and the first such episode in Megaranger, but the kid was cute enough and was smart to have Pink as his favorite, and we did manage to get in some nice bits for Miku and her character, so that's good.

I think MegaRanger episode 10 is my favorite episode of the series so far. It was a very low key story, more about Shun's character than anything else, and I just love how when Sentai has a villain plot that uses music, the music is the villain's leitmotif.

Though the episode falls into a common trap, I've noticed, and that's not realizing when it's okay, story and thematically to not have a mecha battle.

The plot revolved around the Android girl and Shun. The android exploded, Shun took it well, and completely demolished Neo Bat Nejire in about 35 seconds. There was no need for the Mecha Battle, as he already avenged her.

And that episode is pretty much the exact plot that Saban used in PRiS too.

Hell, Cassie was dressed exactly like Miku was!

See, I would actually disagree here; for one, there was no real pause in the action, no "the battle is over, oh wait, now it's back on again", it was all continuous with the music still playing and everything. And second, it really helped to show that vengence is empty; Shun defeats Neo Bat Nejire but he's still furious, he's still angry, and then it comes back and he gets to kill it all over again, and though it is not said, he realizes that neither time really helped or changed anything, his loss has not been undone, so I think in this case that though it was short and to the point, the mecha battle was actually a very important part of the episode and its overall message.

 

[The 2nd Evil]

I realize this probably makes me a horrible person, but the MegaRanger episode with Girell's debut, when he took Takeshi, and dropped him in the path of MegaRed's punch... whole episode is played for drama, but whenever Kenta flash backed to it, the way it played out without the full context is easily one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
