Cowboy Bebop LAA Update!

Credit goes to the UK’s NEO magazine for this bit of news. Word has it that Masahiro Minami, producer on Studio BONES’ chambara epic Sword of the Stranger, and alumnus of Sunrise Studio, will be serving as a “creative manager†in the upcoming 20th Century Fox adaptation of Cowboy Bebop.

Minami says, “In terms of my role, I’ll be checking that the world view, the atmosphere, the feeling of the TV series is there. We’re very aware that we have lots of fans of Cowboy Bebop and we don’t want to disappoint them with the live-action movie.â€

It seems that this time around, Fox are pulling out all the stops to remain as faithful to the source material as possible. However, Minami acknowledges that some disparities will - and indeed, must - be present. “I think it’s only natural that the live-action version will be different to the animation, as they’re completely different mediums [sic]. If they weren’t different, there’d be no point in making the movie. I think the challenge will be as I said, making sure that the same characterisation, the same emotion from te series is in there.â€

Dragonball evolution was not too good to adaption to begin with. How can we trust 20th Century of Fox to adapt the live action version of Cowboy Bebop? Trust me, it's going to be fail BIG.

to be fair one of the reasons why dragonball evolution failed so epically was because of all the drastic changes they made, goku being in high school etc.

they said that they're sticking to the source material so it may not be as bad as you think, besides they haven't even released a trailer yet

Despite how everything may seem, I still have hopes for this movie.

yeah but I can tell Fox didnt really give a **** about DBZ. They just decided to produce a movie based on the franchise before their hold of the license was up.

I dont have a good feeling for this movie, either.

Well if I can see it working I'm open for it. Shinchiro Watanabe & Studio Sunrise, the staff who made the anime is going to remain involved in the film. They'll be reading the script if it's any good and faithful as possible to the anime. Besides, Watanabe doesn't seem like someone who's going to let his best-known baby get adapted into any kind of lesser film.

One of these days I'm gonna have to find this Cowboy Bebop series on DVD and watch it. I've only seen the movie.

Cowboy Bebop is an outer space western, so it can't be that hard, its all Westernized stuff.



Then again, we saw Hollywood mess up cowboys and steampunk stuff already.:sly:




Oh...they should let Joss Whedon do this movie cause he already has experience doing Outer Space Westerns. He should do Outlaw Star while he's at it...and...dare I say it...

yeah but a script can read fantastic but still blow in the actual theater based on any number of variables including Music, bad acting, bad directing...

And even if these sunrise guys sat thereon the set, their vision is skewed. Because you see an actor doing his thing and you think "yeah, this seems like it's shaping up nicely" but the finished product might look completely different.

Their presence isn't a guarantee of quality. I can only hope the movie turns out decent. But it probably wont.
