Could Power Rangers continue without Sentai?

WHAT PART OF MY POST IMPLIED THAT IT WOULD BE A TOKUSATSU???!!!!>:(:sly:

I know full well that doing it animeted would not be Toku and I love Toku.

To KingRanger: They still have to pay money on the American actors plus the American footage like the Battlizers. I would think it cost around or less than what they pay for that footage. Also I know adabation of Sentai is cheaper thats why I said "If Sentai were to go to rest"

To Kamen Rider Godzilla: Where did it say at the beggining of the thread that asking it to continue being live action? The title of the thread is "Could Power Rangers continue without Sentai?" not "Could Power Rangers continue while being live action without Sentai?"

It's pretty obvious from the first post that the OP was asking if Power Rangers could continue as a toku, not whether or not it would be successful if remade as an animated series/other genre and/or format.

Being live action is part of the Power Rangers concept. Changing that would be remaking the show into something new, not the show continuing as it is now. Besides, I am pretty sure most here will agree that an animated series just wouldn't be the same.

What I got from Darkblaze was him asking "Could Power Rangers continue without sentai?" and Then goes on how he thinks it can continue as they make live action footage without sentai footage or the sentai footage they have not used, not "Could Power Rangers continue being live action without Sentai?" (Now Darkblaze if my assumpution is wrong then I apoligize then. Please do inform me.)

They made Kikaider and Inazuman animes and those are loved by the fandom.
Also, there are examples of live actions being sequals to animated shows and movies and Vice Versa. Examples: Star trek the animated serises, The ben 10 live action movies, The New three Stooges, Godzilla (98) the serises.

Now would I prefer an animated Power Rangers? no I would prefer live action but I would be open-minded to it. Is it possible they would go that route if sentai is given a rest? I say yes because it would save them more money than than having to film complete new footage since no sentai to adabt.

If Toei made a new anime with the same basic premise you would find in a Super Sentai show, it wouldn't be called part of the Super Sentai line of shows because it is not live action. It's the same thing here. Being live action is part of the Power Rangers concept as it currently exists, yes they could remake it into an animated series but that would be redesigning the concept and thus not actually continuing the current Power Rangers series of shows.

The whole feel of this thread is definitely for live action, especially with the OP mentioning about props. While you can continue the PR storyline into animation, that's a definite offset from the line it originated from, something that already has been done. In the long run, we're asking if PR can continue on as its own kids toku. PR is a definite distinct beast.

Toei could do whatever they wanted with Super Sentai and it would still be cannon and Offical. It's like Zone Fighter and Godzilla. Toho has offically said that Zone Fighter is set between Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. When the creaters made Zone Fighter they did not say eigther way. Then years later Toho decided to make it offically cannon in the Showa godzilla movie storyline. Another example is Ultraman and Ultraseven. At first, those two were suppsoed to be set each in their universe and seperate from one another. Then Tsuburaya decided that Ultraseven is a sequeal and set after Ultraman. (Even though Ultraman takes place in 1993 and Ultraseven takes place in the 1980s.) Heck, if Toei decided that the next sentai was towels that shot webs and they were fighting three legged dogs with turtle shells and could turn their teeth into lazer guns and said it is a sentai and set after Goseiger, it would be Offically sentai and in the cannon of shows. If Toei were to decide that Jetman was no longer a sentai, it would no longer be sentai. The point is if Toei owns it, they can do whatever the heck they wanted. Would it be smart? I do not think so. Would it make a huge fan outburst? most likely. Would it be offical? if they own it, yes.

You know, I just love how much of a fuss people are making about an animated Sentai/Power Rangers.

First of all, I don't think ANYONE is saying that animated should or would take the place of live action. Anime Kikaider and the other examples given (as well as billions of others I could give) are perfect examples. Those one-shot animes were NEVER intended to replace the tokusatsu they are modeled after and never will. They were just for fun, and the fans seemed to like them. So that's a success. And if an animate Power Rangers is successful, what's wrong with riding that out for a while until a new Live Action show is made?

Secondly, since Power Rangers is an American super-hero franchise, why do we need to wait for Toei to make a Super Sentai anime? Why not just make a great American cartoon? Not all American cartoons are crap. Some have GREAT animation value! I mean, if a Super Sentai anime is made, that would be cool. But wouldn't fans want to see that uncut? What if Toei puts a heavy Japanese influence in the anime? What if someone like Funimation buys the rights to it? Point is, I think a Super Sentai anime would be great as long as it gets an uncut release in the states instead of an edited release labeled as "Power Rangers". It could be the perfect chance to start educating the rest of the world about Japanese super heroes, especially if the anime gets some air time on TV.

As far as I'm concerned, it's possible- but only if someone was extremely into the series and an excellent writer. I myself can and would do it if at all possible, in fact I was already planning to before I discovered Saban had already bought it back. The only problem is that I don't have the patience to keep doing that kind of show forever-

EX: I was only thinking of writing two more sequel seasons (taking place in modern times & ending with the Venjix attack), a prequel (taking place in a missed year due to a future-based series) & then a final season that took place during RPM about an interplanetary team organized to search the Earth & rescue any humans they find.

Of course, using completely original ideas & stories is a differant story all together, since I have a notebook full of about 40-50 Ranger seasons I invented on my own (they could also be easily changed for a japanese market, so I could actually do Sentai as well, which I expect would be easiler, since Japanese people seem more inclined to accept the bizarre & radical in their media)

Also, Samurai, if we did do an animated PR season, we would have to give it to the Italian guy who did WITCH. I've seen two cartoon series that he did (WITCH & Huntik)- both were amazing as far as cartoons go. If anyone doesn't agree, go to YouTube right now & look them up.

To answer the original thread question

Power Rangers is worthless and useless without Super Sentai.

This is incorrect. The reason why it won't happen is because Super Sentai makes production of Power Rangers massively cheaper. Without that added edge, they won't spend the money to make all new stuff when they could just make another show.

Power Rangers makes plenty of awesome original content that doesn't need Super Sentai. But the toys which are the bread and butter of the show... they need the Super Sentai shortcut to make it cheap and profitable.
