Can't use .bmp image as avatar?

Basically I tried uploading a .bmp file as my avatar and it's telling me it's not a valid image type.

What to do?

We don't allow them because the file sizes tend to be rather massive, so just convert it to something else.

Use either MS Paint or Adobe Photoshop or GIMP to convert them from
BITMAP to JPEG.

Bitmap's file size is too large to be used as an avatar or for any circumstances, that is why it is too slow when you upload them on the net (that converts it into a .jpeg file).

.jpg can screw around with the picture. I use .png because it comes out cleaner. ^^;

That is true, but Jpg files are a lot lighter than them in terms of size.
Quality=PNG
Lightness=JPG.

Just go for .png, it doesn't ruin the quality even on a small size unlike jpgs.

Uploa it first to Imageshack. Imageshack usually converts BMP to PNG.
And submit the URL as an avatar.
