Big revival time. I have to say, my current favorite is the Friends with Benefits burger at a smaller joint called Fifty-Six West.

For me the Reuben Burger at the Olde World Restaurant. A half pound patty topped with Swiss cheese, wine kraut, and Russian dressing all on grilled swirl bread.

It was awhile ago, but the best one for me was served at a now defunct restaurant. I can't remember the name of the restaurant, but the burger was awesome.
In addition to two burger that were dunked in bbq sauce before being grilled, it came with the following toppings: waffle fries, romaine lettuce, plum tomatos, four pieces of hickory smoked bacon, two slices of american cheese and a small patty made of fried gouda cheese. All this was served on an everything bagel.

There's a really renowned local place down here called Litton's that originated the "Thunder Road" burger--beef, pimento cheese, sauteed onions, bacon and jalepeno slices. Messy as ****, but much tastier.
I went to a little joint in Charleston, South Carolina this summer called Poe's (all Edgar Allan Poe themed... like it was designed just for me) that had some fantastic burgers with really unique ingredients and topping combinations. Avocado, gorganzola, chili, jalepeno remoulade, you name it. We even got there just before the kitchen closed down, when food is usually the most rushed and least quality, and it was still great.
As far as chain places go, Cheddar's has an amazing burger if you get it with brown sugar bacon and honey-lime sauce, and I'm also quite partial to Famous Dave's Devil's Spit burger. Caustically delicious!

A regular Cheese Burger from Johnny Rocket is the best regular cheese burger I had. For everything else Burger King even though it's fast food.

Dude, your really missing out. There's a TON of good restaurants & local places out there, that really have great Burgers for your taste buds. You just got to look around, man.
On a side note, I like Johnny Rocket's myself, but there is so much better **** for me to enjoy.

I got a really great fastfood burger. It's from a little dive called "Paradise Pup". This is a pic of their cheddar burger. Trust me, it's fucking delicious!
