I wonder when Wonderman is gonna join the Avengers later on.

Most likely won't happen any time soon...probably next season.

Okay, so in the second-most-recent episode, there's the scene where they're fighting the scarabs, and the scarabs all join together to create a millipede, which Hulk basically suplexes.

Is there a more well-known precedent for this scene in the comics, or a similar scene in some movie or influential anime? Because there's also a scene just like this in Da Garn and if it turns out Avengers is making Da Garn references (in the same week My Little Pony is making Sondheim references) I may just **** my pants.

(I kind of doubt this is the case, which is why I wanted to ask.)

I am pretty sure Kang's machines were all redesigned for the cartoon.

Given that the cartoon was using Gundam's animation technique for indicating a space battle... uh, I wouldn't put a Da Garn reference entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Yeah, but Gundam is... Gundam. For most Westerners, Da Garn is like "that Yuusha series with the creepy animal motif that came out the year before Might Gaine" -- for people who even know what a Yuusha series is.

Then again, I guess it only takes one fan of the show at a higher level of production to insert an ob-ref. The combiner millipede is apparently a memorable enough sequence from Da Garn that I immediately remembered it after watching the Avengers scene, despite not having watched Da Garn in five years or so.

(Mostly I just want to know if there's another show with a combiner millipede. Because it's so awesome and should be done more.)

Well, remember that in online anime fandom circa 1993 or so, the ending of Da Garn was a HOLY **** moment for people who followed untranslated stuff. I think it even got a synopsis on Hitoshi Doi's page back when that guy was the king of Internet anime fans.

I honestly can't think of another Super Robot show that did the combiner centipede off the top of my head, though I do wonder if GaoGaiGar might've reused the concept.

Yeah, it existed then! It was really unlike what it is now (you couldn't trade files easily, for example), but very active. Actually, online anime fandom them had a lot to do with building the industry up in the late 90s, such that the DVD bubble after the turn of the century could pick up steam.
