Are we expecting too much on toku shows?

It's not about expecting too much on a show, it's about making toku shows on a public scale, not aiming at a certain range of age only..if u make super sentai, kamen rider n ultramen an adult show, don worry they'll lost kids fans.. i'll guarantee assured u that kids or children will not turn away even if toku shows are adult shows, believe me.. So, i think it is a wise idea to make toku shows more adult-like, n not just aiming to kids..

reasons why i dropped out of KR:
- it's not the same as when i first watched it (Black), or my favourite series (Agito).
- the 'hero of justice' factor from past series is almost totally gone. most riders now fight for their own ideology.
- "WTF" storyline. continuity within a series is messed up to no end.
- designs.. designs.. look at decade and den-o. zzz.
- bike action is one of the reasons which attracted me to Kamen Rider. they still have the bikes, but where is the action? sacrificed for crappy CGI trains and castles.
- Riders use giant mecha now. :redface2:

reasons why i dropped out of Sentai:
- it's not the same as when i first watched it (Flashman/Maskman/Fiveman), or my favourite series (Dekaranger).
- stereotyping of colours. every year, red has to be the screaming one, blue has to be the cool one, etc. it's like watching the same show with different costumes.
- every year the team gets a whole ton of useless mecha, just for marketing purposes.

to me, Toei's series can never compare to Tsuburaya's Ultraman series, because Toei's series lack the heart and dedication. it's probably because Toei is a much larger company apart from its tokusatsu production unit.

While I can't agree with your whole post (Decade's base form is probably my favorite Heisei Rider design! D: ), I wholeheartedly agree on this point. Decade's budget is obviously well above that of Ultra Galaxy (a VERY budgeted show), for example, but Ultra Galaxy, IMO, is by far the more satisfying show.

Anyway, I don't think it's too much to ask for a well-written, well-acted, mostly non-idiotic (decision-wise) show/film when we've already seen it happen on multiple occasions. Personally, I prefer my shows "fun" as opposed to this "dark" thing people keep yammering on about - but on the other hand I DO like some good drama and I also like variety. I would never want all tokusatsu to be all one way or another - it'd lose all the charm!

This is a breath of fresh air for me. I'm glad i'm not the only one who screams everybody screams because they want a Dark series for that series or franchise all of the time. Its gotten out of hand.

Den-O And Engine Sentai Go-Onger were great because they kept the series fresh and kept me waiting for more where as i fell asleep half way through Kabuto.

I think the reason why people complain is because a lot of the people in this fandom grew up watching Power Rangers and wish for a better alternitive to Disneys late comers. I mean thats what i think. I'm a different story myself because i saw tapes of the original ultraman DUBBED in english a year before Power Rangers came out and I thought "Wow this is an awesome Genre".

Shinkenger's really changed this around.

Definitely. Ultra Galaxy is such a fun show with a really interesting story going on, I just hate the fact that it's such a tightly budgeted show. It really makes me wish we'd already get another full blown Ultraman series on a better budget...though I wish Ultra Galaxy would have been that show. T_T

So then you have seen EVERY toei series? I mean you must have if you can say what you just did.
