Apps: The other portable gaming solution.

So I know it sounds odd coming from me, but when it comes to iPod games I'm definitely what one would consider behind the times, so behind in fact, that up until today, I never actually used my iPod for games, period. Not that it was never an option before, but I've pretty much always used it for it's initial intent, an mp3 player/social organizer.

Today I decided I'd finally get around to looking into them since I picked up an iPad for 'work' and while looking at the currently sad selection of games for it, I figured I'd delve into the more robust iPod/iPhone selection. Unfortunately though, I really don't have too much experience with them. It's not like everything else where I've been researching and keeping up with them for the last 25 years.

So... anyone have any suggestions. As anyone who knows me knows, I'm not too big on sports games outside of (real) football (re:soccer) and hockey, so any sports games will probably get a miss. Any of the RPGs decent? What about platformers?

I'm still trying to find the perfect kind of games for my iPod touch. I can tell you the ones I play the most so far, though they arent great and Im probably missing obvious good games.

Low Gravity Racer 2 - I play this one the most. Its like F-zero with missiles and whatnot. Uses the accelerometer and feels good compared to the other games ive tried that use it.

Gunrazor - Pretty much a 2D shooter, but I found it addicting and more fun than others ive tried on the iPod.

Rope n Fly 2 - Its a bit of a weird game where a dude is falling and you have to make him rope swing on buildings and ssee how far you can get in a certain amount of time. it should kill some time.

Tower Madness Zero - Ive never been into tower defense games but this one appealed to me. Maybe cuz its pretty simple, idk. But I like it.

Tap Tap Revenge 3 - If you still got a bit of an itch for music games (which I never really had), this is the one to get for the ipod. lots of free songs to download and its pretty fun, though I dont play it as often since Im not that into music games.

All-in-one Gamebox - This is a must-get, id say. For $0.99 you get 27 games, ranging from stick figure platformers to car shooters to sniping games. A few of the games i had demos for and was surprised to see them in this. Best part is that they update it every couple of weeks or so and add a game (since when I got it, it said 25 games-in-one instead of 27). So, Id say get this since its a good bargain and you'll probably find something to like in it.

There are others but they arent as good so Im not gonna recommend them at this time. But yeh, hope that helped a bit.

I'm not huge on the Crystal defenders games, but I'll give the vanguard storm demo a shot. For only $1 I can't really pass up all in one, so I'll definitely get that to.

I notice that SE remade song summoner for touch/iphone aswell. I might have to get that, that was one of the games I actually wanted on my nano, but never got around to getting.

I grabbed Across Age today, and I absolutely love it. the game reminds me of the older Zelda/Ys games that I used to play. I don't care much for the 'slam dance' style of combat, but the puzzles are pretty interesting, as is the story. Definitely worth the $6 for a 15 hour game.
