Anyone Remember THIS Speed Racer?

Heh, yeah I watched it occasionally. It wasn't all that great, but you have to admit, it had an awesome theme song.

I really had three main gripes about the series.

1: As the series continued, less and less episodes had anything to do with racing. They were doing all kinds of stuff with Interpol. It was a neat idea, but they really over did it.

2: Racer X wasn't nearly as interesting in this series. They basically did away with the secret identity thing. Speed knew he was his brother right from the start. Seemed kind of pointless to even bother with a mask.

3: Every goddamn vehicle they made was (insert stupid name here) 5. I recall at least three other vehicles besides the Mach 5 with that kind of name. The semi the car was stored in, the mini jet that came out of the truck, and a motorcycle. It got anoying real fast.

I never got to see much of it when it was on Nick, but Speed Racer X seemed to have been a far superior Speed Racer revamp.

Edit: I just realized, they made Speed look like Jackie Chan. XD

Oh, god, this was the Power Rangers of Speed Racer, IMHO (which just shows why lame American adaptations like this don't work)! This just about proves my point (along with that dreaded Doozybots pilot, which thankfully never got picked up).

My older brother in-law, who is a big fan of the original Speed Racer anime, just didn't like this show. I have to agree. It lacked the charm of the original.

Even for it's time, I thought it was a little too peculiar, TMNT was at the height of it's powers, so I guess that explains the immense amount of mutants in this show, it just did'nt affect audiences that well, it was like an average mix of Pole Posistion, Turtles, and the racing season of M.A.S.K, a desperate, "throw against the wall and see if it sticks" method of programming.

Ah well...could of been worse...the Free Willy animated series had a flipping cyborg...

Speed Racer X was awesome, I agree, too bad it's history is a pretty convulted and legally damaged one. I'd love it if the new movie prompts a new series that WILL actually be able to have a full production schedule commited to it and be able to be aired in it's entirety.
