I think he looks pretty ambiguous... and I personally always thought he was Asian. Like all the other characters.

I think what you're seeing is that his Asian features aren't being drawn to the usual extreme characatures we're used to seeing. Kinda like if you draw a black character as a cartoon you don't have to give him big pink lips, when pretty much all the other good looking characters don't have their lips drawn at all. And you don't need to make Ang's eyes "slanty."

Ang could be either. But given the context... it's pretty easy to assume he's Asian.

Have you watched the show at all?

The Last Airbender is beautifully animated & has no problems depicting/distinguishing characters of various ethnic backgrounds. And Ang doesn't really fit into any of the Innuit, Chinese, Indian or other such character styling that have been shown. So I would have to say that he's the Avatar universe's equivalent of white.


That doesn't excuse the entire fact that Shamaylan's film cast is predominantly white when a multicultural cast would probably have made for better storytelling.

If your talking about the Japanese Anime style, no it still does not indicate that he is white.
The apearance is diffrent then who he is as an character.

Even real Japanese people when they get their own manga versions of them self they all look white in their manga's.

So no as far as the anime style goes i stopped believing they are supposed to be white.

And like i said the characters were based of the asian animators of the show.

They're all pretty ambiguously drawn. I think that's what they were going for, makes it more accessible. Compare the main characters to the pirate character designs based on the Korean animators.

Yup. Thing was given the context, it wasn't hard at all to come to the conclusion that they were Asian.

Storm rules, but I felt her African origin was needless.... Black Panter sucks for the name alone... I liked John Stewart a LOT even if they gave one of his special episodes the lame title of "Blackest Knight".

I like Static Shock. He was a little ghetto, but that didn't seem to force it so they could make sure you knew he was black... it actually seemed just part of the guy who was actually just a young and charismatic character.

Power Rangers runs circles around superhero-dom when it comes to just making a black character a character.

The first black power rangers was a hip hop dancing martial artist. Isn't that a little stereotypical?
