Anyone noticed Sun Vulcan blatant sexism?

In Sun Vulcan, there is no female warrior, and unlike most sentai, where male and female villains are balanced, the main villains are almost all female.
Having no heroine or having a mostly female villain group wouldn't be automatically sexist; but having BOTH is a little too much.

Sun Vulcan aired in 1981. That's almost 30 years ago..

I doubt it was even an issue then, and shouldn't be an issue now

I think the villainesses in Sun Vulcan were a lot more serious characters than some of the "heroines" we get today. It seems the role of women in most Sentai now is just to smile and look pretty. Toei likes to cash in by marketing the Pink and Yellow as idols, so I doubt we'd ever see an all-male team again

Yup. All the do in Sentai is smile and look pretty. They don't fight, take part in battles, have stories of there own or any of that stuff. You sure did nail it right on the head... /sarcasm

The main selling point of most heroines these days is their physical attractiveness, the characters are either housewife types (Mako, Urara, perhaps Kotoha) or very ditzy (the Boukenger, Go-onger, Goseiger girls, Houka) and Toei markets the actresses as idols to bring in more cash. I'd say that's worse than the set-up of Sun Vulcan

I...don't really think it means that. They probably just thought it would be an interesting idea. Do you consider every other toku show that doesn't have a heroine to be sexist?

I think we can chalk up this entire thread to idiocy.

The moment a show becomes sexist, is the moment it includes a female character just for the sake of having one.
If you are really so concerned about the rights of women, then you would not care if there if there is a female lead or not, because women are not some weak creatures that have to get special treatment in order to be equal
