First, the Power Rangers vs Super Sentai snobbery wars, then Korea with those kids drawing Anti Japanese pictures, now this?

Actually I've seen this clip before, and it was really disturbing. I felt absolutely sorry for the poor woman in the car. I felt like, I wanted to henshin into Kamen Rider and rescue her from all this bullshit. There was another clip where people were vandalising a Japanese restaurant and smashing it to bits.

While I understand their possible reasons (invasion of China by Japan during WW2) i dun agree with how they went about doing things. I dun mean to be callous but honestly, WW2 was half a century ago. It was a terrible thing and there are still some old folks here in Singapore who can't forgive Japan. Still, it's time to bury the hatchet already and move on.

here's the deal, yes the rape of nanking was a very horrible thing, but the thing that infuriates us chinese the most is the fact that japan tried to erase it from history, any documents and photos were destroyed at the time, the most recently released history textbooks in japan had absolutley no mention about the rape of nanking......at least Germany had the balls to admit that they did something wrong unlike Japan....

Ditto. True, it's hard to apologize for 3 years of horridities, or 30 some years of occupation - but that's not the point. Point is, in many things of the events of WWII, Japan has tried to systematically erase/deny/purge any acknowledgement or evidence of such happenings. Yes, it's time to heal, forgive and move on, but it's not going to help anyone by running from mistakes and the past. That's how history repeats itself.

With the rape of Nanking, or Korean Colonization, it's the same thing. The ire and rage such feel towards Japan can't be expected to be assuaged or appeased until Japan starts to step up to their mistakes and take responsibility for it. Germany did and so the world does not shun them for the most part. True, pockets of lingering risidual feelings exist, but it's not a collective as with China or SK for example.

While I agree that atrocities were committed by Japan in WWII and that they should have clearly acknowledged those facts; I still feel we need to put all this in perspective.

China keeps blaming Japan about the events that transpired during WWII, yet theyselve keep denying what has happened (and is still happening) in Tibet. This does not absolve Japan of course but it just goes to show how asian countries in general (so not only Japan) deal with the less glorious parts in their history.

There are also people from Holland who keep blaming Japan for liberating Indonesia. Those Dutch were enriching themselves on the backs of 'colonized' indonesia and after WWII they had to leave everything behind. They're still demanding compensation for that loss but what they fail to see is that Japan did pay compensation to the Dutch governement after the end of the war. However, the Dutch government kept those funds instead of passing it along to the ex-colonians.

So, it's not all black-and-white but many shades of gray ...
