Another Century's Episode R (PS3)

Aquarion isn't as bad as Gravion but I would still consider it a C-tier Super Robot show at best. Most of the themes are recycled from more competently written 70's shows, the comedy is very poor, the pacing is bad, the overall conflict is borderline-incoherent, the story has some promise but the scripting is wildly inconsistent.

I hear that a lot, and yet...much as I love old-school stuff when it comes to Toku, or Western animation, or comic books, or even video games...but every time I hear about some great 70's mecha series...my eyes glaze over. The artstyles from that era are so terribly dull and uninteresting I'm unable to watch anything further back than...1982, maybe?

I guess its not as original as some series from 40 years ago...but its sorta like "a tree falls in the forest", you know?

Good lord! If you can watch early 80s shows, 70s shows should be a treat. There was a big drop in anime production budgets in the early 80s after the 70s anime bubble crashed. So, a lot of the A-tier 70s shows feature substantially better animation than TV stuff made, say, five or ten years later. I find the best stuff of the 70s more visually appealing than 80s TV stuff like God Mars or Macross or even VOTOMS, on a pure animation level.

Anyway, there's a new two-part PV out for this game that may have sold me on the game. It shows off footage from a new ground combat engine that appears to have been developed with showing off the strengths of Full Metal Panic and Code Geass's units. It looks absolutely amazing, but even the aerial sequences look much more fast-paced than anything the prior games dealt with.

Also, the video announces that Alteisen, R-1, Cybuster, and ART-1 from the Super Robot Taisen OG series will be joining the fray! Oh man, I am going to play the hell out of Cybuster and Alteisen looks positively glorious.

There's no character more deserving of getting their ass kicked than Suzaku.

Well, aside from Lelouch, Shin, Athrun, Kira (used to like you but...), Yzak, Kamille, Quattro, the entire cast of Aquarion save for Bad Luck Lady and Soccer Dude, the entire cast of Macross Frontier save for the older idol singer who's name I forgot and Ranka, the cast of Orguss with no exceptions, and even then there's quite a bit of a list of people from shows not in the game that come first.

At least in the early parts of R2, before the writing went to complete **** and I stopped watching, Suzaku was fairly justified in the moments where he was being a dick.

....Nothing Suzaku did was EVER justified. And you watched up to the early parts of R2? How could you watch him screw Lelouch over like a fucking traitor and side with him?

And. How do you not like Ozma? Its mind-boggling.

The guys who sing this

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzDizJijn-g[/ame]

are called Acid Black Cherry (or ABC). It's a side project done by the main singer of Janne Da Arc.

.....I REALLY can't wait for this song to come out. =D

Also, which notable robots appear in this PV? I only recognize

-Robotech (I may be wrong)
-Strike Freedom (?)
-I think the FullMetal Panic one is the one with the knife on its mouth, right?
-It took me awhile, but I think that's Crossbone Gundam

I swear, I thought the v(Nu)Gundam would appear in this one.

Gundam X probably isn't in this because... well, can you imagine how nightmarish it would be to try and turn the Satellite Cannon into a functional in-game weapon in a 3D action game? Even RPG series like G Gen and Super Robot Wars tend to implement it poorly, making it either too powerful or uselessly weak.

Major units to appear in that PV just linked:

- Aquarion from Sousei no Aquarion
- The lead unit from Orguss, the second show in the Super Dimensional Trilogy that Macross launched. The Orguss units are very similar to the original Macross units, so they may be the "Robotech" ones you saw.
- Destiny Gundam from Gundam SEED Destiny
- Valkyries from Macross Frontier. Since Macross was part of Robotech, you may have recognized them that way.
- King Gainer from Overman King Gainer
- I forget the name of these guys, but yes, the knife-in-mouth dudes are from Full Metal Panic.
- The caped Gundam is, I think, Crossbone X2.
- The unit fighting in the tunnel after that is one of the Lancelot versions from Code Geass R2. I disliked R2 on the whole so I couldn't say which, sorry.

nu Gundam is in the game (check out the longer PV I posted), but probably not in the promo video because it's hard to get worked up about CCA units anymore. CCA has been in every ACE game, almost every SRT, and I think every G Gen game. You can play nu Gundam in basically any of these types of games you want, really.

I didn't know Acid Black Cherry was the Janne da Arc's dude side-project. Thanks for the info, I'm going to add a lot of ABC to my music library now. I love Janne da Arc and when I heard this song I was like, "Hey, I dunno this band but man, they sound a lot like Janne da Arc...."

Lelouch kinda betrayed him first with the whole turning his true love psycho evil and then murdering her in cold blood before using her death to further his own agenda. It's really really obvious the only reason that whole thing was an "accident" was because the writers got cold feet at the last minute with following through on how much Lelouch's actual goals contrasted with the ones he'd been feeding people all along.

I couldn't really blame Suzaku for being an asshole in return when you consider all that. Now... the point where he started working with Lelouch again is where the previously mentioned point of shitty writing was already well in full effect (I dropped the show the episode right after the Britanian Rules Chess debacle.) So... **** that part.

And. How do you not like Ozma? Its mind-boggling.

Eh. He's just a cheap knock-off of Roy Folker but without the interesting plot twist (which, arguably, is a plot twist all of its own, ironically).

The caped Gundam is the X1 actually. Good way to remember: X1=white, X2=darkish blue.

And the mech with knife was the Arbleast(SP?)

And that version of the Lancelot I beleive is the Conquesta.
