Am I the Only One that Misses Many Riders vs. Multi-Form Riders?

But in Faiz, whatever you may think of how it ended up turning into a soap, the fact remains that if you CAN say that about it then it means that a lot of time was devoted to character development. And that series most definitely did NOT have simple-minded villains. Nor did it lack action scenes every episode.

The take-away from this thread as far as Glamador is concerned is that shoehorning good storytelling or skillful writing into a specific type of story format is a fallacy and we should try our bests not to think like this. It'll only lead to prejudices for the next shows down the line.

Mr. J's dead? Ahh, what we do?!
Lucky Clover needs 4 people!

What exactly do you mean by this?

....very amusing, yes. What was meant was that they have individual personalities and goals beyond "kill that human because monster bad." NOT like the majority of enemies in Blade, in other words.

What exactly do you mean by this?

Glam means that this entire thread was made (or at least, turned into) talk about how the structure of the storytelling (W's style, Kuuga's style, Blade's style) is what defines the quality of the interactions between the characters, how they grow, and how they develop. Trying to say that having a certain kind of rider (multi-form or multiple persons) or a certain kind of enemy (mindless or not) would make it a better show. But for every show that behaves just as the posters in this thread suggest they do, there's another that possesses the same elements and yet turns out very differently.

There's been so much "It would be better if they did things like this or this or this" and really...none of those things mean much compared to the skill of the production team.

Fair enough, and agreed. I've thought about posting to this thread a couple times, but couldn't quite articulate how I felt about things. I think that's because, really, I think Toei would get the best shows by letting creators do the sorts of shows they want to do. Unfortunately, when it comes to total number of Riders in a show, the creator's format is really going to be dictated by Bandai.

It's become clear that Bandai prefers a main Rider with a ton of forms because that's viewed as a safer bet, in toy sales terms, than shows like Kabuto or Agito that can really struggle if kids decide they don't want secondary Rider toys 'cause those guys aren't cool enough. So now, Bandai clearly hedges their bets by doing a main guy with a ton of forms, and then one other character who can be built around a slightly different gimmick.

So if a show wants to add other Riders for story reasons, like Wizard's White Wizard, then they... just don't get marketed as Riders. And that's kind of unfortunate. I think you get a better toy line when it follows the creative content closely, and riffs off things the fiction is doing. In general, I think the shows would be better off if Bandai would be willing to let creators loosen the formula up a bit each year.

I prefer foot soldiers (ZECTroopers), side heroes (Tackle, Victory One, Oni no Yoroi) or just plain goofballs (GanGan G, Taiyaki Ultimate Form) that aren't Kamen Riders.

The "Musical" Henshin Device (ie Delta, Thebee, IXA) thing is annoying. Birth had the right idea where Date was the main user until the Gotou was ready to use it.

PS: Whimpy Delta...Whiny Thebee...and IXA with handpuppets...*cringes*

I want both to go away. Those things only work with a strong story, and yet Toei will just do it irregardless.

Kamen Rider Black RX, Kuuga, and W mastered the multi forms imo, and Ryuki mastered the many Riders.

I miss back when it was just one or two (but with actual story behind it) Riders that struggled to win without a form for everything.
