All-Star Batman Issue Pulled For "Printing Error"

Superman sucks anyways due to his suit design being corny ,and his god-like abilities.

Uh, Superman's SUPPOSED to be superpowerful! He's a frickin' fantasy figure, for crying out loud! You know, the guy we all wished we could be. And let's face it, ALL superheroes, in the narrow definition, have corny costumes! Especially Batman, and all because of Superman. Costumes, no matter how sleek or silly, make the fundamental superhero look glorious, so you might as well get used to it.

And I can't quite see Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne running around in the streets nilly-willy punching out crooks and so forth. I mean, that's why they have secret identities. Fish gotta' swim, birds gotta' fly . . .

Moving on, I really hate it when people turn Superman and Batman into lame political figures. Superman being a clueless "The Man" (and being taken to task for having "too much power"), and Batman being the invincible avatar of "rebellion and independence." It destroyed everything that was so great about them in the first place. And what happened to when these two guys used to work together like brothers? I mean, disagreeing is one thing, but today, people just like to have them fight each other, or unfairly make one look better and the other one look like a complete idiot. (As much as I love Justice League Unlimited, it is guilty of this, too.)

If you think today's portrayal of Superman irks me to no end, I also think that today's Batman isn't any better. It's like DC hates Superman, so they turn Batman into another Superman, because to them, Batman is more "realistic." (AKA: another excuse to celebrate mediocrity.) Guess what? BATMAN STOPPED BEING REALISTIC!!! What used to be a really cool modern-day Zorro (with hints of Dick Tracy and James Bond) became an overblown overinvincible emo fantasy. Batman is now better than EVERYBODY!!! You realize why people are so annoyed with this kind of crap.

It is cool to read that quote from him. Another you might like if you haven't heard it. Apparently, Joe Quesada spoke to him at a convention and said "I'm modeling everything I'm doing with Marvel on your work in Watchmen!"

To which Moore's response was "...why?".

Moore owns Quesada! Thanks for sharing that with me! That was priceless.

If she hadn't been crippled, she'd be a pretty forgettable character. Hate to say it but that was actually good for her; she was given 'staying power' in the continuity and working as Oracle does far more than she could have as just another sidekick.

Personally, I'd rather have Batgirl become "forgettable" than to follow the trend of "let's kill off and/or desecrate all of the also-rans of the DC Universe, because we must cleanse it for the Cult of the Bat." It's getting lazy, and it has to die.

Well I'll have to pick up the comic myself 'cause I've only read his previous works ,like Year One ,and The Long Halloween. You are probably right. Batman treated kids like ****? That's a WTF moment right there.

at one point he refuses to feed dick grayson and suggests that he should catch rats to eat.

seriously wtf

If they revamped Superman's costume to get rid of the tights ,then I'd might be able to read the comics without laughing. Look at Batman Begins ,no tights , nice revamped costume.

Oh Alan, even you know that your work isn't meant to be copied. Watchman wasn't a superhero comic, it was a sad story featuring non super heroes. It also reminds all of us that Joe Quesada is fucking stupid

It's sad, but I sort of agree that the crippling has added some depth to her character. Plus, they're steadily working towards the possibility of her walking again, if D.C. decides it doesn't want to be emo anymore

I think that too. The thing that draws me to heroes is that they're inherently good, and they can occasionally be really funny when interacting. I love how so many heroes are just scared of batman, and his plans

"Batman's touching me! Why is Batman Touching me? I'm going to die, aren't I" Favorite moment from the justic league

Yeah, Batman is better stripped down to usable technology and his team. Batman works better as a detective with a team, not as some punky super detective crying on a church tower

I kind of agree. I think they need to stop killing off or just ruining batman characters in the name of keeping the book dark. Though dynamic stuff does occasionally need to happen. Bringing Stephanie back was a good idea, but they need to give Tim a girlfriend the next writer wont forget about. It's like they're afraid of lasting relationships

If they revamped Superman's costume to get rid of the tights ,then I'd might be able to read the comics without laughing. Look at Batman Begins ,no tights , nice revamped costume.

I always though a redesign of superman's backstory would help. I see a laid back, almost hippy Jor-el dealing with an almost militaristic faction in Krypton, including Mara at first, and Kal's outfit is an extrapolation of kryptonian military togs, changing the underpants into some sort of loin guard

But Batman Begins isn't a comic. It's a movie that's outright ashamed of comics, as good as the movie is.

The comic-book Batman will always look the way he will, "embarrassing tights" and all. I always prefer the Batman with tights. (Hell, Bruce Timm always used him!)

But for film, it's not impossible to do an update of Superman's costume. I thought that the best streamlined Superman costume, which stayed true to the basic spirit of Superman, is the "Eradicator" version, the first one from the "Reign of the Supermen" series. (The changes I would make to the costume are to lose those superfluous goggles, and give the costume red boots, a gold belt, and bare hands). Something like that would look good enough for that Superman movie "reboot."

See I always like the designs from Red Son. It always felt like I feel Superman's outfit should look in some respects... but less communist

I read this book and I have to say it was TERRIBLE. Seriously, what the heck were Frank Miller thinking? That man (in this book) is NOT Batman at all. There are so many that is offensive language in the book!!

And why did Jim Lee involved this?! I love Jim Lee's art, but c'mon!

**** Frank Miller. I'm glad I didn't buy this!!

She'll never walk just because they have to keep diversity. And having her walk would just ruin the dynamic of her team and her place in the DCU; even if she just sat in a chair all day anyway doing the same thing, it'd just make that redundant.

That's the whole point. It's not Batman, it's All-Star Batman. And there's the same level of language in most comics these days, that's just censored out. And that's just how people talk.

DC's initial comments on what the All Star line was intended to be were based on the premise of doing very iconic and accessible versions of the characters that anybody off the street could pick up and easily recognize them. As in free from continuity baggage and more confusing parts of the characters mythologies.

Now in this respect, in addition to DC themselves flip flopping on it and saying later that it's meant to be a creators do whatever the hell they want line I think even All-Star Superman for all that it's better than ASBAR, kind of fails for the original premise of the All Star line to simply because I don't think Mort Weisngers Superman really fits that bill either.

What Frank has given us instead of an iconic Batman book is his usual grim n' whores schtick ad nauseam and some folks are trying to rationalize it as a spoof.

..and people cuss but nobody talks like a Frank Miller comic.

A noble cause. The only problem is that too many "definitive" reboots have been done to death, mainly because more writers/artists (AKA: hacks) want in on the action. It's going to be extremely difficult for DC to be able to have a definitive version of the characters. Too many cooks spoil the broth.

If they really wanted to do definite versions of the characters without the convoluted mythos, they should have someone with taste, like Darwyn Cooke. But noooooo . . .

Exactly! This was just too infantile to be like real-life speech. Sorry.

Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams have done a much better Batman than Frank Miller ever could. Miller's Batman was such a chump, and now, he's a fascist dick. He should never touch Batman again.
