Emily Bett Rickards Leaving Arrow Ten Episodes Early
As we previously reported, The CW’s Arrow will be ending this fall with a shortened 10-episode eighth season that leads into Crisis on Infinite Earths (where, uh, we’re sure Ollie survives). The series that launched the CW super-verse is ending very soon, but apparently, not soon enough for Felicity.
Love her or hate her, the bespectacled computer whiz and vehicle for Canary shippers to direct their rage is leaving the series at the end of Season 7, for….reasons. Rickards made this announcement on her Insta with this poem:
The time has come to talk of many memes. Of bows and arrows and superheroes and Olicity and Queens
And why TGA is so damn hot
And yes, canaries need more scenes… But wait just one minute
before we go and do all that
For this makes me out of breath
To have this not small chatFelicity and I
are a very tight two
But after one through seven
we will be saying goodbye to youI thank you all for the time we’ve shared
The elevators we have climbed
The monsters we have faced and scared
And The burgers we have dined
I will keep her in my heart for always
And I hope that you can too
Because she would not be alive if it weren’t for all of you ?Love,
Felicity and Me
Well, that’s very cute, Emily. And it also MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER.
The entire series is ending. Ten episodes left. JUST TEN. Why on Earth would you split early under these circumstances, especially when you’re a central character who is married to the title star? If there was even the slightest possibility of a happy ending for Ollie (and it was 90% unlikely beforehand), this just mashes it into dust.
The show, seemingly, has had advance notice of Rickards’ imminent departure, given that the “flash-forwards” show Felicity sans Ollie, with a kid Mr. Queen never knew about. Those hoping that the future could be changed….well, there are some circumstances beyond the writers’ control.
