It wasn’t that long ago that WB launched a streaming service devoted to nothing but DC superheroes, but it feels long, because such a niche service being thrown so many billions of dollars is definitely impossible now. But most of the shows that premiered there have managed to survive: Harley Quinn, Titans and (the subject of this article) Doom Patrol. We know when Harley’s coming back. But Doom Patrol has yet to finish its final season and no one knows when it’s going to get the chance.
New episodes of Doom Patrol have traditionally premiered alongside its cousin series Titans, yet when that show came back last April to finish off its remaining set of episodes, Doom Patrol didn’t do the same. It’s been MIA since with no sign of returning. The last time we saw a new episode of Doom Patrol appear on Max was last January.
And given the state of WB these days, we have reason to worry. Shows and movies have a tendency to just…disappear Stalin-style. How do we know that hasn’t happened here? How do we know WB isn’t just going to trash those last six episodes and NEVER show them?
James Gunn, WB’s new head of DC, was asked about the whereabouts of Doom Patrol on Threads (no link, because Threads doesn’t work in browsers yet). And he answered! The good news is, it hasn’t vanished. “I now have confirmation,” he replied. “As I surmised, no, Doom Patrol episodes are absolutely NOT being shelved, even though the premiere date for the next shows hasn’t yet been announced to the public.”
So we eventually WILL get to see how this wacky show wraps up, though only a select few know when.
