STORYLINE:

“The Devil’s Mouth” is about five college friends seeking one last adrenaline-fueled adventure before stepping into adulthood. Drawn to Thailand’s breathtaking coastal cave systems, they sign up for a guided swim through a remote labyrinth known locally as The Devil’s Mouth—a natural wonder famed for its beauty and notorious for its unforgiving terrain. What begins as a celebratory excursion quickly devolves into a nightmare when the group discovers that a freak storm has recently flooded the caves, sweeping sea creatures deep into the freshwater passages. Most of the marine life perished, but something survived—something fast, silent, and predatory.

As the friends navigate the narrow, submerged corridors, they realize they are being hunted by a massive bull shark that has adapted to the cave’s claustrophobic environment. Panic spreads as oxygen levels drop and the cave’s twisting pathways disorient them. Every wrong turn becomes a deadly encounter, and the once-tight-knit group begins to fracture under the pressure. Old conflicts resurface, trust erodes, and desperation forces them to confront not only the creature stalking them but the emotional rifts that threaten their unity.

With time running out and the cave system collapsing around them, survival demands sacrifice. Each choice carries life-or-death consequences, and the friends must decide how far they are willing to go—and what they are willing to give up—to escape the darkness.

I'm really intrigued by the concept of "The Devil's Mouth" and the underwater setting. Thrillers in claustrophobic environments can really amp up the tension, and I hope they deliver on that! The fact that it's based on a Black List script gives it some serious pedigree too. I'm curious to see how they execute the survival aspect, underwater thrillers can often feel super isolating, which adds to the fear factor.

Are you a fan of underwater horror? I think movies like "The Abyss" and "The Meg" really showcase how intense that setting can be. What are you hoping to see in this film?

Bull shark in a flooded cave sounds terrifying honestly. Sharks in open ocean already scare me but at least there you can see far and swim away. In a tight tunnel with zero visibility you cannot escape anything. The idea that some sea creatures got trapped after a storm and only the shark adapted and survived is a smart setup, makes the threat feel earned instead of random. I hope the movie shows the physics of it too, like how oxygen tanks work under time pressure, that part usually makes these films more tense than the monster itself. Kathryn Newton has been in enough different genres now that I trust she can carry a survival thriller. Adding her to Marvel and now this shows she is picking interesting projects. Release date is close, I already added a reminder for this one.

Thailand cave setting instantly reminds me of that real rescue story from years back, so this already feels heavier before even watching it. Adding a predator into that kind of environment is a bold move, kind of extreme but I get why writers go there for tension. My only concern is pacing, five friends is a lot of characters to develop before things go wrong. If the movie rushes their backstories just to reach the shark scenes fast, it will feel shallow. But if they take time to build real relationships first, the fear will hit harder later. Kathryn Newton usually brings some emotional depth to her roles so I am hoping she pulls this cast together.

I am more interested in the cave than the shark. Getting trapped underwater is already one of my biggest fears. Even if there was no animal chasing them, I would still be nervous watching people try to find a way out. I hope they make the cave feel confusing instead of having characters magically know where to go. That would make the survival part much more believable. If the tension stays high from beginning to end, I think this could be a fun thriller.

I think the cave itself will probably be the real villain. A shark is dangerous, but getting lost underwater while your oxygen keeps running out sounds even worse. I always enjoy movies where the environment keeps creating new problems. Every tunnel could lead somewhere safe or somewhere deadly. That uncertainty is what makes survival stories exciting for me. Hopefully the movie keeps that feeling instead of relying only on loud scares.

Cave diving movies always get me nervous, this one looks even more intense with a shark added. I like that it is based on an older script that already had buzz before becoming a movie, that usually means the story structure was solid enough to survive years without being made. The tagline is simple but honestly does the job, short and creepy is better than long dramatic slogans some trailers try to use.

This is probably one of the few upcoming thrillers that I am looking forward to. The story sounds direct, and I like that because not every movie needs a complicated mystery. The combination of flooding, low oxygen, and a predator hunting people in tight spaces already creates enough tension. I just hope the ending feels earned and not rushed. Survival movies are hard to finish because a weak ending can ruin everything that came before it. If they stick the landing, I think people who enjoy creature thrillers will have a good time with this one.

Not gonna lie, sharks stopped scaring me after so many shark movies came out the past years, they all feel similar now. What might save this one is the claustrophobic cave setting instead of open ocean, that changes the tension completely because there is no room to swim away or call for help easily. If the movie focuses more on the psychological breakdown between friends rather than just kill scenes, it could stand out from other shark films. I am cautiously curious, not fully convinced yet, but the setting alone makes me want to give it a try on release day.
