“Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” is a 2020 Korean drama series, with 16 episodes, categorized as Romance, Comedy, and Music; streaming on Netflix.
SUMMARY: I can play classical music although I am not an esteemed classical pianist. I lived like a princess all my life and then one day tragedy struck. In an instant everyone and everything that was precious to me was taken from me. Will I be able to pick up pieces and move forward? But of course! Just don’t ask me how.
♦ Rich or Poor, I Live a Fairy Tale Life
In “Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol”, Goo Ra-ra is being raised by a single father. All her life, she has been treated like a princess. She didn’t really want to be a pianist, but her father believed she loved music from the time that she was a baby in the crib. He spent a lot of money so she could learn to play the piano. Goo Ra-ra never wanted to disappoint her father, so she never complained about the piano lessons to him. Her piano teacher did hear her complaints.
He wanted his daughter to have the best of everything in life. That’s why he never told her that he was experiencing financial difficulties. Instead, he asked her if she would like to get married. He arranged a marriage for her with a young man from a wealthy family. The young man was crazy about Goo Ra-ra. She did not return his feelings, but her father asked her to marry him. Surely her father wouldn’t want her to be unhappy, so she thought she could learn to love the husband her father had chosen for her.
But on her wedding day, the most dreadful thing happened. Her father had a heart attack. Goo Ra-ra did not get married. When they told her that her father had collapsed, she went straight to the hospital in her wedding gown. She didn’t get to say any last words. He had already passed away. Things got worse. Goo Ra-ra was told that her father was bankrupt, and she could no longer live in her home. The wedding had been called off. There was no way the future mother-in-law would let her son marry a penniless bride.
One of her father’s faithful employees had saved some money for her. He gave it to her, and she went on her way. She still had her car, her dog Mimi, and her expensive shoes and clothes. Goo Ra-ra obviously knew nothing about money management and taking care of herself. She got scammed out of all of her money. Someone on social media had invited her to come to Eunpo City, a small countryside town. She didn’t know the person, but what else could she do? They reached out to her via social media. Perhaps they might help her. (???) When you’re desperate, sometimes all you have left is hope. It could be false hope, but you won’t know if you don’t try.
When she reached the village, she had an accident. Goo Ra-ra was driving her car, and Sunwoo Joon was riding his bike on the same road. She got distracted by Mimi, and in that instant, she struck the bicyclist with her car. He managed to get up with a few scratches. But when he checked on her, she had passed out. Goo Ra-ra was taken to the hospital. She had hurt her arms, but the doctor, Cha Eun-Seok, told her she would heal and could play the piano again. That was the good news. The bad news was that she was in a place where she didn’t know anybody, and she had no money. But she kind of, sort of, had two guardian angels.
- Guardian Angel #1: Doctor Cha Eun-Seok was friends with the man who would have been her husband. He was at the wedding on the day tragedy struck and didn’t know what had happened to Goo Ra-ra after she ran from the wedding. He wasn’t sure if she was doing well, so he decided to keep an eye on her. By coincidence, she ended up living in the same building where she was living.
- Guardian Angel #2: Sunwoo Joon, the other accident victim. He also happened to be at the wedding on the day tragedy struck and wondered what had happened to Goo Ra-ra. Imagine his surprise when he saw her passed out in her car. Because he knew of her suffering, he decided to stay close to her and help her rebuild her life.

“Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol” is an enchanting rom-com fairy tale. The lead female character is not Cinderella or Snow White, but she did live a fairy tale life, and even after bad things happened to her, it still seemed like she was living in a fairy tale. Rich or poor, only good things happened to this sweet, innocent woman. Your father dies, you get put out of your beautiful home, you get scammed out of the only money you had, and yet … you meet a really nice, handsome guy who provides for you and helps you get on your feet. And he falls in love with you. Also, there’s this star in the sky that twinkles just for you. Isn’t that a fairy tale?
