Walt Disney Studios and Marvel Entertainment released the new Captain America: Civil War trailer, which dropped a huge atomic bombshell by offering the first glimpse of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Spider-Man (portrayed by Tom Holland) in the trailer. You can check out that new video, along with new stills from the film and a new poster image below.
Spider-man definitely appears to be a digital creation in the new trailer. His new MCU look is an updated and slightly tweaked version of his more traditional and classic look. One noticeable item of interest is that his suit has expressive eyes for the mask that change shape. Perhaps that’s some type of technology for Tony Stark. In the comics, the eye thing was always more of an artistic impression to give Spider-Man some emotional expression while wearing a mask. Then again, in the Deadpool movie, his mask did also feature the animated, expressive eyes. It’s possibly not meant to be explained.
This trailer gives a better sense of the rift between Captain America and Tony Stark over superhero registration. There’s also a nice callback to the “I can do this all day” line from Captain America: The First Avenger. This trailer also confirms that Spider-Man will be on Team Iron Man through most of the story. So that at least evens up the numbers and puts TeamCap and Team Iron Man as six vs. six.
Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
