Anime Inspired Tabletop Game LokDown Launches Kickstarter
So you’re in the mood to play a tabletop game based on an anime…but which one? There are so many popular properties out there. Why not choose “ALL OF THEM” with the upcoming tabletop game LokDown?
Developed by game design company Nor Cal Mythos in California, LokDown creates a world where any classic anime trope or character type can be realized. It’s “designed to let you be anything from a Demonic Gunslinger to a Kitsune Shapeshifter to a Cyborg Z-Fighter and everything in between,” they say. As for what kind of world this is possible in, they’ve put a lot of thought into it. The backstory is a bit too dense to summarize here and best read on the Kickstarter page (it’s looooong), but here’s a taste:
When the alarms blared, announcing the end of stasis, the crews and their families slowly awoke to find their vessels had all crashed on a strange alien world. The only message from Admiral Lok: A call for hope, a plea for determination, and an inspiring farewell. He placed their ship on the best course he could towards an inhabitable world they would not reach for over 2,000 years. They found Admiral Lok’s ancient mummified corpse still at the controls and gave him a burial in the planet he had died getting them to.
Dubbing the world LokDown, the peoples of the Luminous Dawn Fleet set about finding a means of surviving their new, brutal home. The ships that had ferried them for millennia were damaged beyond repair, and the precious fuel sources needed to propel them, completely spent. While able to support life in several forms, LokDown proved to be as hostile a life-sustaining world as any on record.
Long story short, to stand a chance on LokDown, the survivor’s team of scientists had to find a way to mutate people’s bodies and give them superhuman traits. That’s where the anime tropes come in. You can be a shapeshifter, a summoner, a sorcerer, or just really good at martial arts on an enhanced level. Your power level will be over 9,000!
Digital copies of LokDown take a $25 pledge. You get a player’s guide, a GM’s guide, a starter kit and everything in the stretch goals. A hardcover physical edition of the player’s guide OR paperbacks of the player’s guide and GM’s guide will be thrown in with a $45 pledge. Color hardcovers of the player’s guide and GM’s guide are available at the $75 tier.
If all goes well, copies of LokDown will begin shipping out this November.
