ABC President Addresses Shelved Agents of SHIELD Spinoff
Though not a certainty, it seemed incredibly likely that Agents of SHIELD was going to get a spinoff starring Season 2 newcomers Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter. However, just as soon as the rumors began to surface and build up steam, the show was then stopped as Agents of Shields and Agent Carter were renewed.
But, what was the real reason the Agents of Shield spinoff was stopped? Well, according to ABC network President Paul Lee, it was because they ultimately decided they wanted both Bobbi and Hunter to stay on the main series instead of leaving for their own spinoff. Speaking to press at a discussion this week, Lee stated (via IGN), “We absolutely love those characters on SHIELD. I think SHIELD really hit its creative stride this year.”
He also noted though that the spinoff could still go on. It’s just a matter of circumstance, but for now, he agrees the best place for Bobbi and Hunter is on Agents of SHIELD. That is great news because the finale of season 2 tonight featured them heavily, and teased a very different future than the spinoff might have led us to believe.
The third season for Agents of SHIELD will premiere later this fall on ABC.
