A Trap Called Desire ~ Falsely Accused But Not Permanently Erased

“A Trap Called Desire” is a 2026 Korean drama, 100 episodes, categorized as Makjang (or Soap Opera, Daily Drama), Dark Comedy, Revenge, Melodrama, Mystery, and Crime. It is streaming on KOCOWA+.

  • Memorable Quote: “Even if you’ve erased your whole past, there’s one thing you can’t erase. The daughter you gave birth to.”

SUMMARY: A woman is falsely accused of murder, forcing her into a dangerous search for the truth. She confronts powerful figures and long-buried secrets.

♦ I’m Adopted?

In “A Trap Called Desire”, Go Eun-Seol is shocked to learn that she was adopted and does not know her biological mother. But that doesn’t matter. The woman who raised her is her mother. End of discussion. However, the adoptive mother is confused about Go Eun-Seol’s parentage. Through a DNA test, she discovers a dirty secret. The test showed that the woman she thought was Go Eun-Seol’s mother was not a DNA match. The woman she suspected did switch babies at the hospital. But the baby she switched was not Go Eun-Seol. It’s Kang Hae-Ra, one of Go Eun-Seol’s schoolmates. So then …??? … who is Go Eun-Seol’s mother? Her biological parents are in the dark. They don’t know their baby was switched.

Go Eun-Seol’s adoptive mother confronted the woman who masterfully orchestrated identity theft. At first, the woman tried to blackmail her. But when that didn’t work, she killed her to keep the birth secret buried. Go Eun-Seol is framed for the murder of her adoptive mother. She serves 10 years for a crime she did not commit. When she is released, she sets out to uncover the truth.

She Says She Was Reborn

Joo Mi-Ran is a respected PR director whose polished exterior hides decades of manipulation and ambition. She threw away her old identity as Joo Ae-Sook, created a new one as Joo Mi-Ran, and says she was reborn. The reborn Joo Mi-Ran has a public persona that is warm, charitable, and impeccably controlled. But beneath that veneer lies a woman who has built her life on carefully constructed lies. Her connection to Go Eun-Seol is deeper and more dangerous than anyone realizes. Joo Mi-Ran is willing to protect her status—no matter the cost. After all, she’s already committed murder, paid someone to be a false witness to frame an innocent person, and substituted her own daughter in the hopes of making her an heiress. She’ll do whatever it takes to keep living The Big Life … uuhh … The Big Lie.

She Doesn’t Know Who She Is

Kang Hae-Ra believes she is the legitimate heiress of the powerful Cheongma Group and flaunts it. Joo Mi-Ran, the woman she calls “Manager Joo”, is her real mother. She has no idea that she was switched at birth. Even so, that doesn’t excuse her malicious behavior. Kang Hae-Ra did not have artistic abilities, yet she entered an art competition. She won a prize for a painting she didn’t paint. By contrast, Go Eun-Seol is a gifted artist, and she also won an award for her artwork. Kang Hae-Ra’s father discovered that she cheated and forbade her from competing in any more art competitions. Go Eun-Seol, on the other hand, continued painting, hoped to enter more competitions, and build her career. Kang Hae-Ra – much like her ruthless and vindictive biological mother – seethed with envy and jealousy. She did everything she could to hinder Go Eun-Seol from her achievements. Her attitude toward Go Eun-Seol got even worse when she realized the classmate that she had already decided would be her husband liked Go Eun-Seol instead.

He’s My Man! Really? He Doesn’t Act Like It.

Cha Seok-Jin is Go Eun-Seol’s first love, but he’s also Kang Hae-Ra’s first love. Interfering with her painting career and getting her expelled from school wasn’t enough. Kang Hae-Ra tried to keep Cha Seok-Jin and Go Eun-Seol apart! When Joo Mi-Ran succeeded in framing Go Eun-Seol and having her sent to prison, no doubt Kang Hae-Ra thought Cha Seok-Jin would be all hers.

As soon as Go Eun-Seol is released from prison, she begins piecing together the truth behind the false accusation. Her attorney, Seo Hyun-Jae, is helping her investigate. She crosses paths with Cha Seok-Jin again. Even though their reunion is fraught with unresolved emotions and the weight of a decade-old mystery, Cha Seok-Jin becomes her emotional anchor. Of course, Kang Hae-Ra is not too happy that they hooked up again. But what can she do? She has already shown that she can do all sorts of evil things. What Kang Hae-Ra can’t do is make Cha Seok-Jin love her.

Joo Mi-Ran is also quite capable of being a wicked villainess. Like mother, like daughter? Go Eun-Seol’s adoptive family has cast her aside. They believe she killed the adoptive mother. But she believes her adoptive mother is watching over her and will help guide her path. Plus, she has both Cha Seok-Jin and Seo Hyun-Jae in her corner, providing support. Go Eun-Seol’s journey is not just about clearing her name but claiming her place in a world determined to silence her. Vicious lies, jealousy, and covetousness may have adversely impacted her life, but they didn’t erase her. Joo Mi-Ran and Kang Hae-Ra may be caught in a trap called desire, but Go Eun-Seol is not trapped. She’s justly motivated.

Where to Watch

Viewership and Rating:

  • IMDb: (no rating) out of 10 stars
  • My Drama List: (no rating) out of 10 stars

My personal rating is … UNDECIDED.

Would you believe one Amazon customer gave it a 5-star rating? 5 out of 5 stars???? It started airing August 10, 2026. 100 episodes are listed. Eh! Who knows? Maybe as the story unfolds, there will be a surprise.

“A Trap Called Desire” is another predictable makjang with annoying female leads. One female lead is covetous. The other one is a spoiled brat. If it weren’t for the two male leads, there would be no reason to tune in and watch. And yet … I keep track of Korean makjangs, and every time one is going to be released, it gets added to my watch list. Am I a glutton for punishment?

OMG, I can't even imagine how wild "A Trap Called Desire" must be with all those genres crammed into 100 episodes! 😱 The combination of dark comedy and melodrama sounds like a rollercoaster. I mean, who doesn't love a good revenge plot to keep you on the edge of your seat? The title alone makes me think of those crazy twists where you think you know what's happening, and then bam! Total shocker!

Do you have a favorite character yet, or is it too soon to pick sides? I'm always here for a complex character that keeps things interesting!

My favorite character is not one of the ladies. It's Cha Seok-Jin. And my other favorite is the other guy, Seo Hyun-Jae.
