2K Australia is Closing Its Doors
Sad news gaming fans, beloved game developing studio 2K Australia is closing its doors. The studio was once a part of Irrational Games, and helped make the Bioshock series what it was. Then, it became its own entity, and helped make the wildly popular Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, now though, a full closing of the studio is taking place. As 2K itself confirmed:
“We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.”
So why the closing after all the success? Well, we may truly never know the full reason, however, it’s been speculated that key departures on the team were the main factor. These departures were started when it was rumored that the studio would be moving to Melbourne sometime in the future. This led to numerous people in the higher levels of 2K Australia to depart, which have forced 2K’s hand in regards to closing the studio.
Our thought are with those who lost their jobs in this closing, hopefully you will all find new work that you enjoy soon.
